I was wondering this today, has anybody ever encountered a sealed copy of Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, or were these shipped out without a factory seal considering these would never make it to retail shelves

I'm by no means a Dreamcast expert but from what I understand, every game that left the factory was shipped out sealed to keep it protected. Even games for the NES that had no intention of being up for retail were factory sealed.

There might be some in the hands of Sega Employees, or some smart Hollywood Video employee, but if there are any, its beyond rare. I've never heard of any personally and wouldn't pay a premium for one either, though i'd pay a premium (and did) for a SA:LE without that Hollywood Video disc shield thats on most of the copies of SA:LE.

The company that packaged the disc keeps a sample of the products in a vault. They also send a dozen or so sealed samples to the publisher for their records as well. If there are any surviving sealed copies, that's where they probably are.
