Official Dragon Warrior/Quest Thread - Discussion & Collection

I know I started one of these a while back, but the pictures were sometimes a bit much in the posts and I wanted to consolidate the pictures into one area.

Therefore, I started a gallery on my website of my Dragon Warrior/Quest collection which can be viewed here:

This is everything I have so far, but I have a few more things on their way.

I also want this thread to contain discussions about the series. If anyone has any questions or comments about the games themselves (import or domestic), post here and I am sure I or someone else will reply shortly.

Only thing wrong with mine is one small crease on the box and a wrinkle to the front page of the manual. It doesn't hurt that I only paid $3 shipped for it! :)

Just haven't acquired one yet. I only have the Torneko Super Famicom game because I got it dirt cheap. It was never my intention to ever get any of the spin-offs or the Monsters games as they just don't interest me.

If you know where to get The Last Hope in awesome shape for < $10, let me know! :-D

Thanks for the compliments. No, I haven't acquired it yet. Still looking for it. I do have all 4 Famicom games CIB on their way and 3 more plushes though! :)

Dragon Quest VI is the Japan-exclusive only one released with a map, yes? Were the Famicon Dragon Quests (1-4) released with maps?

1) Dragon Quest VI is indeed the ONLY Super Famicom game that came with a map.
2) None of the Famicom Dragon Quests came with a map.

Yes I did. It wasn't the greatest show, but brings back memories. I believe we only got 13 episodes here, but there were quite a few seasons in Japan. Too bad the DVD set costs like $350+.

Um... what about Dai no Daibouken? Or was it Dai no Daihouken?

We got that in Spanish in the late 90's but the programming schedule was run by crackheads so the series just... ended after they got on a balloon or something. :(

IMO, DQ5 is the best DQ out of all those released for NES or SNES. Shame they haven't released it in English.

They even had the chance to atone for this mistake by finally translating the game when they rereleased it for the PS2, and they still didn't do it. So Square-Enix can go bleep themselves.

Like I said, I had only played the original one week ago. It's a pretty boring game. The others are fine.

I've played 1-5, but didn't get very far in #5 before I decided that I hate emulation. So my discussion is only limited to 1-4.

Tough call between 3 and 4 as for the best one. I'd have to go with #4 mostly for the ability to change your characters, even mid-battle.

#2 is the worst of the bunch mostly for its difficulty and annoyance.

I love #1 though. Several times, it kept me from falling asleep when talking on the phone with my then-girlfriend.
