    Exclamation LORE Contest - LOCKED!

CONTEST COMPLETE as of October 1st, 2007. I'll be reading through all of these over the next month and winners will be chosen by Halloween. However, I won't announce the winning entries until the book is ready to go. It's been slow going but progress is being made and this will be worth a purchase even if you own the last edition (7)!

GREAT job, folks. Judging is going to be tougher than ever this time!

    Original message follows.

Here we go again! With each incarnation of the DP Collector's Guide we select a dozen or so tales of gaming lore from our community.

It works like this. You post a non-fictional account of some gaming moment, memory, event, or recollection. This post should be in essay form (we will help with the editing) and most importantly should be as ENTERTAINING as possible. It doesn't necessarily have to be funny - but intrigue makes for good reading, good reading makes for contest winners.

Oh, about the winners. There's not a whole lot with regards to prizes for this recurring contest. We'll choose our favorites, and those stories will appear in the upcoming CLASSIC Collector's Guide. You get published, your name in bright lights (assuming you read the book in bright lights). And you get a free book.

    BASIC RULES:
    - The first rule of LORE Contest is, we all talk about LORE Contest. This forum provides your canvas AND your support. Post your story in your own thread in this forum.
    - Feel free to critique the essays in this forum but PLEASE be constructive and remember that if you can't say something nice it's better to say nothing at all.
    - Remember your subject matter. This book covers everything from the dawn of gaming up to and including the NES system. Don't post an essay about your early days with your Sega Genesis because it's outside of our scope. For a complete list of systems covered in this book, see THIS page from our last edition.
    - Your story can be as long as you'd like but in the past we've always preferred stories that take up less than a full page in 10pt text.
    - Grammar, spelling, editing all count but we will assist. It just gets you points if the thing is written well because that means it reads well right out of the gate.
    - We ask that your story be truthful. You can embellish, of course, but wild unbelieveable stories are usually cast aside.
    - Contest will close on July 31st so you've got a solid month to get it together. Remember that you can EDIT in this forum, so feel free to update and tweak as you see fit. On July 31st everything gets locked down.

Oh, one final bit of assistance here. We've got some past winners online so you can get an idea about what we're looking for both in terms of content and essay size:

Best of luck to all and feel free to post any comments or questions right here.

I'm targeting Classic Gaming Expo (July 28th) but I won't rush it or compromise a quality product to meet that date. So far, so good.

This is freaking awsome, as I have nearly "worn out" my old book. I was blessed to have several of my entries make it in the DP advance, and look forward to submitting several for the new book. I also look forward to hearing other funny stories from other members. These the are stories that make me collect the systems!

As you can see, I've already begun. I have another in the works, I just need a title...

Since the book deals with home consoles, would arcade lore from the era be acceptable?

I have a fantastic story to tell but I doubt I'll be able to tell it very well. I'll give it a shot though. Hopefully some help with the editing will make the story presentable. It could be one hell of a story though. :P

Actually I'm wondering that too. Probably not, since it focuses entirely on the consoles, but I could probably write up another or two more if that's allowed. I wasn't around during the classic era, so it would give me another chance to tell a story.

Are you going to update the advance guide too? If so is there a release date?

If I can think of some data, I'll write some lore.

Non-fiction, huh? I made it into the 6th edition and got a free copy. My story was pure fiction, though.

What I DON'T know won't hurt anyone... but it's all presented as "real life". If you choose to lie, and I believe it, congrats to you.

Whoa, whoa there fellas. I didn't lie or deceive anyone. If you read my article right now you would realize what I am talking about. It was a sort of dream scenario, and I assure you that you knew that it was a work of fiction. At the time it was just a little bit of entertainment, it was a sort of humorous article. As a matter of fact just go back and re-read it, I believe it was called "The Greatest Day...", but I will check in my guide when I get home to make sure.

I apologize that my wording made it seem like I was being a bit of a tool, but I was not. I should have worded it a bit differently so everyone didn't think I was bragging about deceiving you.
