Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting a GBA but wasn't sure if I should go for the SP. I think I will get the regular GBA and a game or the e-card reader...

Well uhh.. yeah dude. It was always well publicized that the GBA SP would be incompatible with Kirby's Tilt and Tumble and we even just talked about it here http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10001
Well anyway, five minutes with a soldering iron would probably fix that. :-)
Heh... then the modified Kirby game won't work on older GBA or GBC.
Another day, another dollar... wake me when it's payday.
still playing games
I hate the SP dont get me wrong...
But who gives a crap if kirby titlt a whirl dont work on it.
Its a video game version of that stupid marble you roll through a maze thing only it doesnt control good and that original marble thing sucks anyway.

Why do you hate the GBA SP, out of curiosity?Originally Posted by Sothy

yeah I remember reading about Kirby but I guess if you look at the total amount of Gameboy Games that have been released from the beginning up until the Gameboy Advance library you are bound to discover some games that do not work with the SP, does anyone know if Road Rash for the original Gameboy works with SP?
Games, games and more games
I hate the concept of adding a light to an existing product and selling it for 100 bux.
Let them try releasing a PS3 it just has 4 controller ports and is green with no internal difference for 500$
Who am I kidding it would sell anyway.
And no im sure thats not what the PS3 is....

The modifications are alittle more then that. Yeah its a little steep, but the light make such a huge difference. And the rechargable battery is so nice. Also the new smaller design makes it easier to play at my desk without my manager catching me.
And there are modifications. Every time a new variation comes out there are always modifications. Like the lighter screen. I have a very original GBA and without the light, the SP has a lighter screen then mine.
And you have to figure, the GBA is 69.99 new. THe GBA SP is 99.99. It's is $30 more, but you are getting improvemnet (i.e. LIGHT, recharable battery, sleek folding more portable design).
And on top of that alot for places give you 40 dollars trade towards the SP for your old GBA, which means you only pay 59.99 for it.
At least they didn't charge $150
I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"
But they still designed it for someone with 5 year old hands. My hands aren't abnormally huge, and I do have wrists problems most people probably don't, but the SP is even more cramptastic than the first.
And I've always had rechargable batteries in my GB. They're not that expensive and you can use them in other things.
What are you talking about.. the dimensions when it's unfolded are pretty much the same as the Gameboy Color. Did you think that was too small too?Originally Posted by Captain Wrong
I'm talking about button placement and all that. Granted I've only tired one in store, but everything was too close together for me. I can play the GBA fairly comfortably, but yeah, even the GBC is a bit small for my paws. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I feel like the SP buttons aree too close together.
Nintendo has never released anything with adequately sized controls, save the Advantage stick. I don't have particularly large hands (5' 11", can palm a volleyball, usually not a basketball), but every pad controller out there today with the exception of the original XBox pad is too small (just another reason why you should never use a pad). Heck, when the NES came out I was 10 and thought then that the controllers were too small. The SP is more comfortable than I expected it to be (I was expecting instant cramping), but since it is being marketed towards an older market than the GBA, I would expect adult sized controls. The GBA was too small to play comfortably for more than a few minutes, so to go Game and Watch sized controls is absurd.
Of course, opinions do vary. I work with a guy who is like 6' 7", 250-300lb, and he doesn't mind the size.
Well yeah it's funny that way. I remember being excited about the GBA but when I got it, I grew to dislike the shape for the only reason that it made my hands all cramped up! (especially during a heated session of Mario Kart :P). I never had that problem with the GB/GBC so I often wished they had elected to go that shape instead. Matter of fact, when playing a GBC game, like Zelda... I'd often break out the GBC rather than playing it on the GBA only for the reason of comfort.
So the GBA SP is sort of like an answer to my prayers (hopefully).. mine comes in either tomorrow or Tuesday so we'll see.
I with the cap'n on this one. The GBC always cramped my hands. The best $10 I ever spent was on a molded piece of plastic that makes the GBA look/feel like a Dual Shock. I'd *love* to get something like that for my GBC. And I won't get an SP until I can...Originally Posted by Captain Wrong

I have no problem with the SP's size, but it's true that I have very small hands (to give you an idea, I bought some time ago a pair of baseball batting gloves. They were size M Youth).
I like the fact that the start and select buttons are back to a normal size (not that it mattered for most games, but it was annoying when playing any of the Zelda games).
