You need professional help.
It had already started to go downhill at Driver 2 with its insane chaser AI. The game never really picked itself up after that.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Driver:PL had some interesting ideas that I'd like to see tackled in a better game, like the two timelines/game worlds showing the city in two different ways. You get that a bit from GTA3+LCS and GTVC+VCS, but it'd be neat to see Rockstar North integrate it in one title. Hell, maybe GTA4 will do it? It'd be especially awesome to see more gradual evolution of the city.
Beyond that, the one real standout feature for Driver was always the replay mode. My roommate and I would spend hours upon hours of recording our ultimate little chase movies. The interface sucked (it was clunky as hell on PS1), it took up way too much memory card space, and yet we still loved it. The missions got old, the series got pretty bad until it bottomed out in Driv3r, and the developer seems to have a knack for taking decent ideas and being unable to realize 'em, but the replay mode....man.... what a great fucking idea.
For me, the entire series' existence, despite all of the negative points in each game, was justified in this video right here. For all of Driv3r's faults, that video makes me want to fire the game up on the spot.
Thankfully it looks like Driver '76 might actually be a good game. Woo.

Oklahoma DP Roll Call!
The first Driver was one of the best games on the PlayStation, even if the last few missions were insanely difficult. But nothing in the series even comes close to GTA.
I might get Driver: PL on the cheap someday (although I did say the same thing about Driv3r, and fortunately came to my senses). I'd like to see the Driver series get to a point where it would at least live up to the True Crime series (which would have been a little better if they weren't as glitchy, especially New York City, which was rushed for a holiday release).
I think the majority of people will say you're nuts. I have always enjoyed the Driver series, (except Parallel Lines, which I have never opened) but Grand Theft to me is a lot better game. It's the freedom of the game along with sooo much to do that sets it apart. One thing that we need to think about though, where would Grand Theft be without the popularity of Driver? Would we still be looking at a top down game? I think credit is due to the Driver series.
Has anyone played driver 76 and how good is it?
Ha! that video roushimsx posted was great.
I've always been a fan of series (yes including Driv3r), as well as the Stuntman. Part of it has to do with the car crashes and physics, as no one can pull them off quite like the guys at Reflections can. Although they should just stick to "in the car action" as Driver 2 really sucked when you had to leave your car, and things haven't really evolved beyond the cars in the series. I haven't heard anything about Driver '76 or whatever it's called, but I'll probably end up picking it up eventually.

Oklahoma DP Roll Call!
The only game in the Driver series I've played is Driver 2 and I only played that on the Dreamcast, but I actually beat it that way, which means that I did in one sitting since the Bleemcast Beta doesn't support saving. I guess that means I liked the game. GTA3 (I've only played the original, not Vice City or whatever other versions there are) is a more involving game and certainly offers more to do as people have said, but the actual driving and chase sequences in Driver 2 seem far better and more exciting.
...word is bondage...
I wanted to update this thread ,has anymore people played driver 76?
I've always enjoyed the Driver games, in my opinion the series peaked with Driver 2. I even enjoyed the highly flawed Driv3r, and sunk quite a bit of time into it. I hate to say it, but I think the GTA series is alot better though.
