    Default Dick Smith Invaders?

I went to a pawn shop where I found a Nintendo Game & watch (safebuster) and this little number above for about $40 AUS. Now I don't think I have ever seen one of these things so I thought I might just pick it up.

It's made by Dick Smith and has a U.S Design PAT of: 06/143564 and a U.K Design PAT of: 992950.

So does anyone have any idea of value, year it was made, or any background information?

Must have been an Australia only release. It doesn't have a page for it on the Handheld Museum website that I can see, so you might want to pop over there and post the question in their forums.

Dick Smith is some kind of store in Australia. I'm sure that handheld was sold under another name without the Dick Smith stickers. I've never seen it before.

Yeah, it was definitely sold under other names... So many it's hard to keep track of them all. It was manufactured by Ramtex (their name has been found on the actual circuit board, so I'm going with that. ) It's in the musuem under that name:

I'd probably give it a value of around $20-30 US... They don't show up that often on Ebay, but they don't seem to sell for a whole lot either (unless they are boxed). So the AU40 price is on the higher end in my opinion... But if it's in really nice shape it might be worth it... (Check the battery compartment for corrosion, seems common in this game.)

There's also another version of the game that has Space Invaders and Breakout in it, but otherwise looks the same:

Well it's in really nice condition with no corrosion in the battery compartment and still has that red ribbon. Although I think it might not be working correctly becasue it shows 6 ships down the bottom :/ But I only got it for $20 AUS so it's not that bad

Definitely a label variation. This style/shell housed several games- at least 2, probably more. Some are multi-games with a Space Invaders clone and a Breakout clone. Some are just Space Invaders.

Dick, as you AUSSIES know, was like Radio Shack in the US. It's basically like having a Tandy variant of another known game. Both Dick and Tandy relabelled other companies work and sold it. I would say that you paid the right amount. Although one could sell for more to the hh fanatics, it's unlikely without a box. The value in handhelds is 80% in the boxes.
