Default Keeping track of your collection

How do you guys keep track of your collections?

I used to use the IGN list, because it was simple, clean and loaded fast, but now it's that bloated IGN Club.

I also have it on the DP list, but I found that is wasn't suitable to my needs.

I've also looked into a database program from Collectorz.com that seems pretty cool, but... eh.

For the last year I've just been writing everything down in one of those Hilroy noteboks, and it sucks.

I think my signature says what I use.

IGN used to be funny with their pricing structure, but after having used RFG for so long it's painfull trying to add my collection to IGN. Adding one game at a time after sorting thru 3-??? pages of simular named titles without the option to just go thru each system's software is just too much for me now.

Has anyone tried out the demo of the Collectorz.com Game Collector program?

Seems pretty cool, a lot of it is automatic and you can make your own columns for what you paid, rarity, etc. It's 40$ though, and the barcode scanner (very nifty feature indeed) is 140$(!?).

But, web based is usually more convenient (and a tad cheaper). I will check out RFGeneration and VGRebirth.

    EDIT:
I think I like the look of RFGen better, so I've signed up and started making my list. I'm on my PC games, and I've already had to submit a few games they didn't have listed, or didn't have listed for my region or had console ports, but not the PC version. Well, I guess it's a WIP.

    Thanks!

Yet another response and plug for...

I keep Excel sheets (soft and hard copy), and use RFgen to show it off. Its kinda like RAID-5, three records for me from which I share and update my collection listings.
    it's thinking

    I use MediaMan...

( ^^ example with movies, you can also do it with games, cds, etc.

Its basically a copy of Delicious Library except it's not Mac-only.

Delicious Library. Only for Mac, though, as far as I know. And I only put in my boxed games.

ATM I'm using a good old fashioned Excel spreadsheet. I can pick and choose what data I want to have and I have pretty good control over how to build reports on it. I may move onto one of the off-the-shelf solutions as my time has become a true premium in the last year especially.

Another one for Excel here. The only drawback is not being able to show it off like on those web-based systems, but I really don't care about that.

Speaking of the Excel system, does anyone know of a good place to download some Excel game lists from. I am in the middle of actually transitioning to keeping track with Excel, and I can't find a good source for the lists. I have been doing a lot of copy-and-pasting, and that just blows.

I set up Open Game Lister on my site (link) after doing Excel spreadsheets for a while. For DVDs (link), I've been using DVD Profiler for the last 6 years or so and love it.

I may sound rather cheap, but I'm still using the same old plain text file... and this for the past fifteen years. I found that it is the most portable/small way to describe my collection.

I took a little good natured ribbing for this in another thread but I keep track of my collection in my head.

I try to play through everything in my collection at some point or another. I don't buy stuff just to have it sit on a shelf or just to pad my library. Since my collection is less than 200 games, all of which I try to play, I do an all right job keeping track of things upstairs.

I have a pretty good idea of what I have too, but it's nice to have a consolidated list of everything, me thinks.

I use RFgeneration. its my favorite way so far especially with all the ways to sort and look at your collection (and others).

I am looking into getting excel and keeping and updated file along side of rfgeneration for a nice back up and for when i get an excel enabled PDA so i can save myself from buying doubles (or remember whats on my "to get" list)
