How long do new NES 72 pin connectors last? I always hear people saying that they rather have a Messiah or a Yobo than deal with the hassle of replacing the connectors. Does this mean they wear out really fast?

I haven't had one wear out... But they do hold the games in too tight.. Some games like Tengen games require lots of hand strength or even pliers to pull the games out of the Nintendo.. Lots of people around here have had success cleaning and straighting out the pins on the original Nintendo Connector..
Where exactly do these things come from, anyway? I mean, whoever is manufacturing them can't just be doing it so people can have NES replacement parts. Do they have any other particular uses?

I've never had a bad experience with aftermarket 72 pin connectors. I've been using the same one for the past two years. Like PSerge said, they do tend to hold the games too tight at first, but after a while they loosen up some.

On a similar note, I've been going through the process of cleaning all my NES games and testing them. After testing a number of games, i end up with just a blank screen. Using a cleaning kit on the system usually fixes it right up, but I'm now out of those old-school cleaning kits.
I've tried using cloth around an old credit card with rubbing alcohol, but that just ended up pulling the pins out of place. Any advice on how to clean connectors?
I'm sure this has been covered before, but searches only yeild info for cleaning carts...
Same here. I've been having some issues with my Top Loader lately. I've must've cleaned it three times in the past two weeks. I've been using the Alcohol/Toothbrush method, and yet I still get the damn gray screen on several of my games. Even after cleaning said game extremely thoroughly.
