Default Sonic Xtreme Impressions (w/ video)

So, first off.. I am NOT going to answer any questions reguarding the origins of this, please don't ask, though I would be happy to answer questions about how the demo plays inside of this topic.

Anyway, I was able to have a play through with a Sonic Xtreme tech demo, and found some interesting bits.

While it is built on the Nights engine, this runs VERY smoothly at 60 fps, unlike Nights, which is at 30fps. Youtube can't display at 60fps, which is why it looks sorta choppy.

There is no slowdown (not sure if the fact that the playing field is very small comes into play =P)

control could have been better, but this is just an early demo.

I always thought this game was overhyped, and not capable.. But after playing even just this little demo, I am convinced Sonic-Xtreme could have been a contender with Crash, Mario and the likes..

I dunno, I think I like the "fish-eye" version of Sonic X-treme better. The draw distance in the NiGHTS-style one is just awful.

Now we know why it never came out. I definitely like the fish eye one better, but that's not saying much. Of course, everytime I see a video of the fish eye one, for some reason I think of Super Mario Galaxy. Hmmm...

I wonder if the fisheye was 60 fps, especially since that sorta stuff was state-of-the-art back then.

I'm not sure how good a Sonic game would be with such a limited draw distance.

Running, running, running...::BOOM:: badguy pops up out of nowhere. That doesn't sound fun at all.

Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

you know I thought that video looked so close to that little demo on the x-mas nights disk where you get to use sonic to go through the level. I'm wondering if they included that on the x-mas nights disk because they already had it made working on the x-treme game.
