Default I've had it with Wii friend codes!

I wasn't expecting much from Pokemon Revolution on the Wii, but the fact that you have to enter friend codes kills the deal, and any chance I will buy it.

Honestly if i'm up late at night and want a quick match with someone, I don't want to have to boot my pc to find friend codes with 90% chance that they aren't even playing.

This friend code junk has got to stop, i've had it and until Nintendo gets away from the friend code structure i'm not touching another one of their online games.

I'd always been under the assumption that you enter the friend codes and it stores them on a list for you, like it was just an activation code or something to stop spammers. But you have to enter them every time? That's...incredibly stupid.

Why did you think Pokemon Revolution would be any different?

Excuse my ignorance - I'm not an online gamer.

Do you need to input someone's friend code every time you want to play someone? It doesn't store your friends' codes on the wii? Mariokart DS on the DS uses friend codes but it's not too painful because at least it remembers your friends.

I keep saying this is what is going to kill the Wii. People are going to see how user friendly Xbox Live and PSN are and realize how ass-backwards Nintendo is.

This friend code bullshit is what is going to turn the new Smash Bros. into nothing more than a prettier version of SSBM. Online battles should be the future of the franchise...not entering a handful of friend codes every time you want to battle a human opponent. This always riles me up every time I start thinking about friend codes. SSB for the Wii could be THE online game to play, but Nintendo is going to screw it up. Everyone here (DP Nintendo fan-boys included) know it too.

But you can still play online against random people without having to enter any codes, right? The friend code B.S. is just so you can have them on your list for easy access, isn't it?

For the DS I know that's true. Mario Kart DS lets you log on at any time and search for competitors. I don't even have any friend codes and I always find someone to play with.

I'm sure it would be possible to do something similar with the Wii. And it does store friend codes, in the address book.

The friend code thing is total bullshit. But the real deal breaker for me is voice chat. Why does Nintendo clearly think this is not important? If I'm playing a friend online, I want to talk to them, dammit!

I think it all has to do with Nintendo fearing "Dateline NBC: To Catch a Predator: Wii Edition". Nintendo is seen as kid friendly in the public eye, and I'm sure they're trying to pander to that image.

That's why my Wii is a companion system to my 360. I don't even care if I can go online with it. But what the Wii does have is offline multiplayer. Last generation I bitched and moaned that single console multiplayer was virtually dead, it was easier to play a game with a stranger across the country than it was for me to play two player with my husband. So while Xbox live is perfect for quick anonymous matches, the Wii is great for siblings, couples, and parties. Anytime we have a group of friends centralized in one location we're guaranteed to either break out the Wii... or Guitar Hero. :P

It's a shame that today's parents are so irresponsible that Nintendo has to do the parenting for them

I couldn't agree more. But, when it comes down to a child being a victom of a child predator due to Wii match online, parents are going to blame Nintendo because they can't deal with the fact that they've failed somewhere. It
    s pathetic

How often do you complain about people talking negative about Sony?

Nope, not trying to stir things up, just balance things, just trying to figure something out that doesn't make sense to me. Hating and not understanding the negativity on something you like then being negative towards something other people like.

I'll add something related to the topic to keep this from continuing. I don't play online so friend codes don't matter to me. It sounds like it's a big deal for everyone else though and I understand that SSBB could be something huge with great online features.

Is there a chance Nintendo could change the way their online is set up?

That's what I was trying to say. If you don't like people posting negative comments about Sony (even if it is only 1 or 2 posts) don't post that you don't like something about the other two companies. Also, I respect that you replied to my question and other comments. Thanks.

In a friendly way I would like to say give the Wii a chance or give it time. It might end up with a lot of great games (as people say often, "like the DS"....even if you don't like the games on DS).

To be on topic again, how much does it cost to go online with the Wii or 360?
