    Default Favorite Video Game Sport

I've chosen some of the bigger events, but feel free to choose "other" and list your favorite video game sport. Hey, there way be big-time Cricket or Boating fans out there - I don't mean to leave you out.

The Hockey games translate well into video games, and they're only getting better. NHL2K3 was great, and with some tweaking, next year should be awesome.

Hockey is great because of the fights, the hits and the goals and it's quite easy to play just picking up the joystick. With football, there are all the plays, and it is damn hard to play co-operatively (i.e. quarterback and receiver) on most systems. But, football get the Silver.

    Baseball?

Basketball isn't bad either. I just want some fighting and hitting.

Just as in "Real Life", tennis and golf are the only two sport games that I enjoy. I'm such a damn nerd.

Might have been easier to choose "other" if it had been an actual poll choice. However...
The only "sports" games that I've actually cared to play are racing games (Nascar, DTR, etc.) and FIFA Soccer for the 3DO. I probably wouldn't have even played FIFA if it hadn't came with the system.

    Definately football.

Older systems, games like Tecmo Superbowl, and of course the Madden series on the newer consoles.

Honourable mention to Hockey, w/ the EA NHL series.

I voted for Tennis, as it consistently converts into hilarious video game play.

Me and my friends have spent hours volleying the ball in NES "Tennis". Atari 2600 Tennis was also pretty cool.

Mario Tennis also should receive an honourable mention.

Back in the good 'ol 16-bit days though, my fave sports game was NBA Jam on SNES - all night tournaments were spent with that rockin' cart!

I voted for golf, but now that I think about it, I should have voted Other for bowling. 10th Frame for C64, Ten Pin Alley and Big Strike Bowling for PS1, heck even the bowling games for the 2600 and INTV are lots of fun!!! I haven't seen a totally bad bowling game, with the possible exception of 3D Pro Bowl for the PC...that one was bad.

I had to debate between hockey and golf. I wound up voting for golf because its such a great "lazy" game to play. Play at your own pace. I like to play a round as my "cool down game" at the end of a gaming session(reffering to an Onion parody from a year or two ago....still makes me laugh!).
Hockey is a close second...like others said...seems to translate well and lots of action. I still play the EA versions of both sports in bed on my Nomad before going to sleep fairly often. Also just picked up Tiger Woods 2003 for Gamecube but have yet to try it out.
19 votes so far and none for baseball or basketball...kinda suprises me but then again I dont bother with either myself. Baseball seems to take forever to "learn" how to play well enough for it to be any fun and is usually only good as a 2 player game. I usually quit and just play around in the Home Run Derby mode for awhile.
Im also a sucker for a decent fishing game...though i haven't played one in awhile.
Somebody mentioned bowling. Damn! Been a long time since I played that in a video game version. Used to play 2600 bowling tons when i was a kid! Whats the most recent bowling game released? Anything for the recent gen consoles?

Nothing so far for the XBox, PS2, Gamecube, or GBA.

The most recently released bowling game is Big Strike Bowling for the PS1. I believe it came out last week. It is pretty good, reminds me a lot of Ten Pin Alley with better graphics, but slightly worse pin physics. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that several people who worked on Ten Pin Alley actually worked on Big Strike. And it's a $10 budget title!! Can't go wrong with that!!!

I'm with you here. I'm WAITING for a next gen bowling game. There was supposed to be one on the DC, with net play and everything, but it went down like so many others as the system crashed and burned.

I've been meaning to check out the Brunswick series on PSX or N64. What do you think, those worth it?

BTW, Ten Pin Alley is now a $10 release as well. Man, those "wacky" characters grate after about 2 minutes, but the bowling physics are pretty solid, even if it takes a little getting used to.

All time fave bowing game, League Bowling Neo Geo. (Though it's pretty easy, it's still fun.)

I don't have the N64 version yet...I need to suck it up and spend the $25 the one store that has it wants for it.

If you go for one of the Brunswick PSX titles, get #2...the graphics aren't the greatest, and the load times are a bit long, but the physics (one thing that I'm a stickler about) are excellent. These are appearing to be at least moderately rare titles now...I think #2 is definitely worth the money ($25 last time I found one used).

I'm actually a bit glad that the DC version never made it out...it was being made by Bethesda Softworks, and their PBA Tour games on the PC were not that great. Graphics were alright, but again...there was something not quite right about the pin physics. Eh, maybe they had fixed that problem...who knows.

I thought that game was about 100% finished...wonder if someone has a copy out there??

    Too many maybes.

Golf and Tennis I like to play single player ( I seem to CRUSH anyone on Tennis, and golf is too slow for normal multi-player).

Hockey, Football, and Soccer all tie for first for multiplayer. Me and my father switch every 3-4 months when a new game comes out, Finishing up FIF right now, then we'll probly move onto Hockey again. All EA Sports of course

Soccer for me...since Atari 2600 games to FIFA 2003 or WE series, SEGA Worldwide soccer and a lot more...Soccer is the best.
    Then maybe i like tennis.
