I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"
I haven't played the network games but based on the others I'd take the original games by a landslide. The "X" series is good fun but didn't really tinker too much with the original concept - which I think is why I also like it. Couldn't get into the 3D world of Legends, though I really WANT to like it.
Counting only 1 through 4, I have to say I like the X series above all else. They had polish and the game mechanics from the original series was still there. The added 'upgrades' and being able to charge up the boss weapons gave it extra variety that put it a chin above the rest.
Oh, wait, that wasa REAL question? I was expecting mega man 1, mega man2, mega man3, mega man 4m etc.... etc.. THEN I would have had to think. But obviously megaman original is the best out of the lot.

I perfer Battle Network myself. I just like the style and the feel of the games. Can't wait for the next one.

Though I grew up loving the original Mega Man games (well, the first three, anyway), I have a soft spot for the big-eyed melodrama and RPG elements of the Mega Man Legends series. Who knew that turning Mega Man mainstays into anime stereotypes would be just the change that the franchise needed?
