Default Does the Famicom Disk System (with the RAM Cart connector ;) work on a USA NES?

Does the Famicom Disk System (with the "RAM Cart" connector that connects the Disk System to the Famicom through the Famicom's cartridge slot) work on a USA NES at all?

I presume because the way the USA hardware is designed, you would need to theoretically use the RAM cart connector / Famicom Disk Drive with a USA TOPLOADER...

    Anyone know this?

Yes, if you were able to figure out a way to get the RAM cart to fit (like fitting 2 Game Genies to a Famicom adapter). However, since the NES doesn't support external audio from the cart port, you won't get the extra wavetable sound channel the FDS has.

Personally, I'd get an actual Famicom to use with the FDS; it looks better and you get the enhanced sound.

Isn't there a mod you can do to make the sound work?

Yeah, there is. There's some NES dev forum (which I forget the name of) that tells you how to do it.

It must be nesdev.parodius.com. Iirc, it's just running a wire from one of the catr connector pins to some other point on the board...possibly an expansion connector pin or something.
