Default How'd the saturn auctions go?

I didn't get to attend CGE this year but am curious about the werewolf and major damage saturn auctions. Anyone have any interesting tidbits about them or high how the auctions went?

Also, any idea why GDG auctioned them instead of publishing/releasing them?

I asked the guy why they auctioned them, and he said that he was unable to secure the rights to release them, despite years of effort. So he decided to sell them off... possibly hoping for the new owner to leak them.

I'm not sure how high the auctions went. He was auctioning it via offers through his own booth, rather than using the CGE auction. Last I saw, Werewolf was well over $300 and Major Damage was over $500. But, that was way before they ended.

the cge auctions are like for charity so if he wanted the cash thats probably why he auctioned it himself.

No, the CGE auctions were not all for charity. If you wanted to sell something for yourself, you definitely could (in fact, most of the items fell in that category). Only the items John specifically said were for charity while they were being bid were actually for charity.

If everything was for charity, there would be no real need for reserves on the items...

    Default Saturn Protosat CGE

    Hi guys,

The Werewolf sold for $550 with the Saturn 3rd party developor launch disc.
The high bidder for Major Damage never honored his bid, so I still have MD.
Also, since someone brought it up above, we were not selling the game for profit, as GDG is operated by a group of fans and hobbyists. No one at GDG has ever taken a penny from the organization since its beginnings almost a decade ago. Profits from the sale of Werewolf, et cetera go to fund our next project, whether it be a new game, a book, audio cd, dust covers - whatever we believe in at the time. It is true that we could not negotiate the rights to the game, and since GDG's mission statement is all about preservation, we thought that we'd set them loose. If we can't obtain the rights to publish them, we'll let the public "do with them as they choose" so to speak. We did give money to the charity, as well.

Oh yeah, a BIG thanks to those that stopped by the booth to say hello. It is really cool getting to put a face with the names that we have all seen over the years.

    Thanks for your time,

$550 for WW plus a system disc..someone got a bargain there..

BTW Someone should(ve) contacted you about selling Major Damage elsewhere, if that would be possible that would be great.
I would've made you a direct offer but that wouldn't be very nice to other party interested..

Any idea what your plans to do with MD are ?

I wouldn't mind throwing a bid on it if it were put on ebay or elsewhere for auction/sale.

    Default Saturn Major Damage

Well, we really haven't thought that far ahead since we just got back from the show. I was thinking that we might auction it off at Philly later this year. However, we'll entertain offers - send 'em to service@gooddealgames.com. A few things that anyone reading this should know. Unlike Werewolf that is/was playable, Major Damage is not (or at least I can't find a way out of the demo loop) It is video that loops and is fairly similar in artstyle of Captain Quazar for the 3DO if you ever played or seen that game. Also, in order to play the game, you'll need either a modified system, a launch disc, or an actual Saturn development kit. Since we sold our only launch disc, we cannot supply one of those. There are some scratches on the disc, but it has been handled with care once in my possession, which has been since the late 90's. I've booted it up several times over the last decade with no problems. We're letting it go because we cannot negotiate the rights, so we'll also consider trades for another unreleased prototype (Saturn or many other systems) which we might be successful in obtaining publishing rights.

    Best,
    Michael of GDG

    Nice.

Should you able to do some screen captures before you sending away the disc to its new owner? If it turns out to be someone else, I'd like to be able to see it before it floats out of reach again if know you what I mean.
I will spread media (screens/movies) if I turn out to be the new owner.

I"ll will send out an offer.

    Thanks for the information

Well, we sold the boot disc, so we do not have a manner of starting the game to take screen shots at this point. Silly us that we didntl think that far ahead. We had assumed that both would sell at the show - we did not account for a winning bidder to not pick up the item.
