Hopefully Dragon Quest 5 and 6 will make it to the states.
The only way for a North American gamer to play them in the past was by using an emulator and download the roms.

I could've sworn I was playing Dragon Quest 6 in my SNES awhile back and that I was located in North America. ;P
All kidding aside, that's awesome news. Maybe it'll bring down the price of Dragon Warrior 4 as well.
That is delicious..
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
DAMNIT, I might actually have to buy a DS for this!
I expect that all console RPG fans have played DQ4 for the NES, but for those of you who haven't played DQ5, it is by far my personal favorite of the series.
DQ5 is kinda like an SNES version of pokemon, and DQ6 is kinda like an SNES version of Final Fantasy Tactics. Mixed with the Dragon Quest battle system and setting of course. They've both been fan-translated into English, but it's great that the DS versions will bring these games to a whole new English audience who didn't know anything about these games.
More JRPG's are never a bad thing...squinting to see the action on the tiny DS screen might be.

I've always been bummed that we didn't get the PS1 version of Dragon Quest IV. An english DS version of the game would totally make up for it. God, I loved that game...haven't played it in over a decade, so no idea if I'd still feel the same, but good god did it treat me right.
Not sure if V is my cup of tea, but I had a pretty fun time with the 6th game as well. I'd be down for giving remakes of either a shot in a heartbeat.
That's my main beef, too I hate having to hold the DS so close. I'm really looking forward to seeing DS emulation mature to fix the screen-size issue, though I'd probably have to buy a wacom tablet to really get the most out of it. Considering all of TabletPC's functions have been migrated into Vista, that probably wouldn't be a very bad move anyway, though. I love me some Windows TabletPC.

Actualy, I've been playing DQ 6 on my SNES for some time. No problems at all.
I'm not so concerned about how it will look on the DS as they will be re-makes but more if they will even be released in the states. We got the FF games on the GBA, but Nintendo published them for it. If SquareEnix doesnt want to release them here it's up to Nintendo. If they decide not to, well, that's it. SquareEnix's already shown they dont care to handle re-releases themselves and will be more then willing to either cancle it or have someone else publish it. After DQ IV, I'll not hold my breath.
I'll buy any US Dragonquest release. Wasn't it part 7 that came out for PS1? I also thought 5 and 6 were Japan only?
Cool, I should really play the DQ Games bit more. I have only checked out DQ1 (!) for now, to have a look at the start of the series, hehe.
I've never had a problem reading text on my DS. Maybe you guys should get some reading glasses.

I'd recomend getting the GBC release for DQ1+2. 2's still one of my favorites of the series. 3 shouldnt be that expensive for the GBC either. 7 and 8 didnt impress me as much though 7 had more then enough extra content to put the game well over 100 hours of gameplay. Plus it had a decent story as well.
I believe SquareEnix begs to disagree. It'll be interesting alone to see the sales figures for it once it hits Japan. As it'll be the first in the series to start on a handheld vs console it should prove interesting. It may not be the 100+ hour epic journey thru 8-10 towns we've come to know, but it could very well be the best.
As much as I'm waiting for the news of a domestic release on these 3 games, I'm hoping 4 swords gets a release as well. It's sales numbers so far have been rather nice and something to show North American Wii owners as well as European something we've been missing so far. A RPG game.
I don't mind my RPGs being on handhelds. My eyes aren't bad, but I can understand why some have trouble with seeing the text.
Perhaps the next DS will have TV connectivity? I doubt it, but you never know.
But yeah, I like my handheld RPGs.

Yea bad joke, I know. Anyone see any reputable word lately on when we might see the remake of DQ4 for the DS? I just recently came into the DS world and now I am very curious.
still nothing official on a US release, though the JP version of IV is supposed to come out this month.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker just came out this week and it's a pretty good placeholder for DQ9, which I heard was supposed to be multiplayer and online but with the same battle system. Oh well, DQ is great.
A remake of DQ4 would rock, but finally bringing 5 and 6 over here rocks hard! Wish I finally beat 6 on my emulator long ago, if i could find a decent emu to play it on my tv (translated of course), I'd be happy.
