Default saving PS1 games on PS3 W/O memory card

OK, Im really new to modern video games. I got a PS3 and want to play Castlevania:Symphony of the Night on it. Is there no memory card slots on the PS3? I know its got 20 Gigs on it, but will Syphony of the night save on it. It tells me I got no memory card at the title screen and that Ill have to play without saving. Whats the point. Will it save?
I know this is a really dumb question for most everybody, but I need help.
    Thanks
    Jim

Another thing to take into consideration is if you play a ps2 game that required a "multi-tap" for multiplayer over 2 player you will have to reassign controllers to the correct ports as if there were a multi-tap.

Built in memory units and multi-tap are 2 things that really impressed me, really smart how they did it.

I'd just like to say that I absolutely love the virtual memory cards. Migrated everything from my physical ones to my PS3 HD, backed 'em up to my PC HD, and then got rid of one and kept the other for HDLoader lovin' on my PS2.

Never knew about the virtual multitap, but that's pretty hot.

The virtual memory card feature is one of the (many) overlooked "values" of owning a PS3. Considering PS2 cards are still $24.99, having the potential to create unlimited memory cards and store them securely for only $15 (the price of the memory card adapter) is an incredible deal.

Circuit City has a sale on the PS1/2 memory card adapter for PlayStation 3 at the price of $9.99.

I just pick this up yesterday and am about to transfer all data to the hard drive and then I may transfer to pc as well.

I am now about to make the transition to playing all my PlayStation games on one console!
