    Default Tomy Tutor

As I was packing up my stuff for the big move at the end of the month I came across a Tomy Tutor, joysticks and 10 carts that I had bought a while ago. The carts are: Hyper Space, Traffic Jam, Scramble, Pooyan, Cave Crawlers, Loco Motion, Jungler, Torpedo Terror, Deep Six and Car-azy Racer.

Just curious what these things are worth.

Sadly not all that much, your lot will bring maybe about $40 on eBay given the proper conditions - the system is 3/4 of that money. Still a really cool niche computer system to have in your collection, I've had mine since release.

    Zemmers,

You have a complete collection. If you have no dupes, 10 different carts, that's all that was released here in USAland. I think your set is worth a little bit more, maybe $75-$100.

A boxed system depending on the condition of the box should fetch $40-$75, I would venture to guess. If your system and box was truly near mint, I'd be interested in trading for it. I have a boxed system, but the box is kind of ok.

So, has price gone up much in two years? I would imagine that shipping would be the catch...

Oh, and I've heard it's almost completely compatible with a TI/99, is that true? I want to get one of these not only for the games on it, but also the fact that it was a computer made by Tomy.

Let's put it this way, the lot I bought was zemmix's - $60.00. Tutor stuff is odd price wise since while it's super rare it's not super valuable. Yet when stuff does come up the Tutor owners all dive on it. Besides, it wasn't developed by Tomy, it was developed by Matsushita. No TI/99 compatibility. While there are some similarities, on the final product user end things are night and day. I do suggest you read up on this stuff because it really isn't for everyone. Truth be told the ports of a couple games are awful, namely Pooyan.

I'll have video up of every game on Friday as well as an overview of the system. More or less, it should give you a better idea about the system and games. I wanted to do the videos this weekend but simply won't have the time to shoot them so that's why I'm going to do that Friday morning - should be live by Friday afternoon / evening. Also remember that I'll be selling the duplicate system and a few cartridges from that lot as well - so it will also act as a "see before you buy."

I'll be looking forward to it. I've only seen a few screenshots, and some descriptions of various Japanese releases, so you'll be filling in a few blanks for me.

I wish I would have bought that Tutor bundle for $60...

Yeah, there's not a single Tutor video on Youtube, just one Pyuuta video.

Truth be told I don't know if I ever plugged the thing in. Glad it went to someone who will use it at least once! heh.

Videos are (slowly) being uploaded right now. I shot all of them yesterday but had work early this morning so I didn't have a chance to upload them. Once I got off work I had to head out for the holiday so that should explain the late upload. So I burned all the videos to a few CD's and I'm uploading them at my parents right now.

My YouTube account is where they can be found...

The overview videos should be up right now and the individual game insights are being uploaded as I post this. I didn't have anything in mind ahead of time before shooting these. Basically I put the camera on the tripod, pointed it at the TV and said whatever came to mind while I played the game briefly. No editing, each video is a single take, as with my arcade videos. The system overview videos were the camera on the tripod pointing at the table while I stood to the side.

Thanks again zemmix, I really do love this system.

Nice, I was watching that auction all week, but it went a little out of my price range.

I'll have to watch the videos and take a look at your sale, but from what I've seen, it's a little too limited for my taste.

No problem, the upcoming videos (later alphabetical games) are far better than the first videos. Also I'm going to sell my lot at a more reasonable price.

Cool, I might consider it, but I'm probably going to end up buying a Commodore 64. When a person like me, who can barely program anything in BASIC, thinks the Tomy Tutor is restrictive, that says something about the openness of it.

Honestly the Tutor is more of a game machine than a computer - at least today.

    Yeah, I guess so.

Looks really hard to program games for.

Well, shoot, keep me in mind when you plan on selling that Tutor. I'll be happy to have one.
