Default Is Sonic Adventure DX for Gamecube known to be buggy?

So today, I picked up Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle at Gamestop, used (please no Gamestop bashing).

Now, SA2B seems fully functional (which so far is the only good thing I can say about the game), as does every other gamecube game I own, but SA1DX keeps giving me this error message saying "An error has occured. Please turn off your Gamecube and consult the manual."

I've cleaned the disc millions of times and--even though this happened on two different cubes--cleaned the lens. The disc itself looks to be in good condition.

    So what's wrong with it?

... Maybe you just got a bad disc.

Tried going to the store and ask for a replacement? Maybe someone traded in a bad disc on purpose.

The disc doesn't look tarnished at all.

Yeah, I'm thinking of returning both games.

You say you may return both. From the sounds of things, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on Gamecube isn't that hot then......?

Good to know since I thought about selling my Dreamcast versions of SA/SA2 and just getting the newer ones on the Cube. Looks like I won't be doing that now.

No doubt...the port of SA2 is pretty solid, but the port of SA is garbage. Higher res textures but the framerate pays the price. The controls weren't cleaned up at all, either. I was pretty disappointed

Well, there's always the PC port of SADX, right?

Yep. Haven't played the full version though, just the demo... camera is the same as always (you'd think they would have cleaned it up after 5+ years...), but at least the framerate and resolution were nice.

To be clear, I never owned a Dreamcast or played the DC versions of SA1 and 2, so I'm not judging based on that. Also I only played SA2 until the third level, with Tails doing his impression of Mechwarrior.

The game was okay. It was fine when it was just Sonic running and Knuckles flying around and climbing walls, but I lost interest by Tails' level. I just wasn't all that engrossed in the gameplay or the story. Also, I tend to have uncommon views on things (you oughtta see me argue RPGs sometime) so its probably best to see for yourself.

Most of the reason I even bought either game was because I heard one of them included the SMS/Game Gear Sonics as unlockables.

The people complaining about Sonic Adventure DX are complaining about it because of its gameplay, not technical specifications. Either that, or they're Dreamcast fanboys who can't handle the fact that one of the DC's top titles was ported with additional content to the GameCube.

I've played Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast and the GameCube - both
versions handle identically. The GameCube version has the added bonus of containing additional content and using the GameCube controller, which is superior to the Dreamcast's.

If there's a problem with Sonic Adventure DX, it's because it was a problem ported over from the Dreamcast version of the game too.

Well actually DC fanboy's as you so negatively describe them are complaining about the
awful frame rate the GCN version has, yes I am aware the GCN version has enhanced gfx,
but it slows down at times well beyond what the DC version does.

Also The DC gamepad is far better then the GCN pad imo.
    zomg I have a sig

I think the GC setup works better for Sonic Adventure, but it doesn't change the fact that they didn't bother to clean up the control or auto camera issues that have plagued the game since 1998 Trying to pick up and move Chaos without beating them like an abusive stepfather is pretty tricky to do in either version because someone thought it'd be a great idea to bind "attack" and "grab" to the same button, all in the name of simplicity.

...at least they added that map feature.

Wouldn't this be more at home in Modern Gaming? Ya know, post-PS2 and all that. Just sayin'...

In my opinion all the versions are good.

I didn't like the models on the SA DC version but the textures were better. The models are better but too shiny for me in the GC version so the differences are mainly cosmetical besides extra content and the better chao system from SA2. The only thing I use the game for is for the gamegear games though. It really doesn't posses that much replay value unless you're aiming for world class records.

SA2 is my bible in sonic 3d gaming though. Both versions have good things really and I really like the camera and controls in both. I have no idea why people claim the camera is crap in SA2. Just gotta use it right.

SA2B is definitely worth owning. I got the game when it came out and I still play it. Vs.mode is definately fun if you can match two highly skilled players. Some of the stages have nice additional little things, more 3d objects, new character models and it has chao karate. Mostly cosmetic but fun anyway. I also absolutely adore the controls on the cube controller. It's really solid.

    This post...really had no point.
