Default When Games and Your Past Mingle

I suppose this is the proper forum.

I was born in a small town called Hope, BC. Before the province upgraded the highways back in 1984 (about) a single lane higway used to pass along one side of town. There used to be a log propped up over the highway as you entered town announcing "GATEWAY TO HOLIDAYLAND" I remember it fondly. It was later moved becuase the other logs supporting it were getting old and unstable. Or maybe it was that it obstructed a new set of traffic lights that had to be put up. I guess it really doesn't matter why but they moved the log up the road a bit so I took a pic when I passed through Hope back in July.

The reason for such a pic follows. Imagine my surprise when I was playing Burnout 3 on my PS2 when I caught a glimpse of a log sign propped up over the highway on one of the tracks. Silver Lake Southbound or Northbound. As a lark I turned around to check it out. What I saw kept me smiling for hours.

Electronic Arts has a pretty solid presence in BC so I shouldnt' be to surprised but it still gave me the warm fuzzies.

This is going to sound crazy, but this happened when I bought the Complete Captain N cartoon series on DVD!

If you ever watched this cartoon as a child and liked it, you can get the whole series for about $30-$40. A great buy indeed.

Holiday Land was also the name of the ficitious town that John Rambo goes to war with in the movie version of "First Blood" as well. I know it was filmed up in Canada, but it was supposed to be in the USA, and in the book was in Louisiana. Guess Holiday Land is kind of a popular reoccuring theme.

If I was still a skateboarder, I'd be drooling over wanting to grind the hell out of that log.

A large portion of Rambo First Blood was filmed in Hope.

My grandmother lived in Hope for a while and my uncle still lives there!

I found a thrift there and loaded up on a ton of cheap videogame stuff last time i was there. I got like $80 worth of NES and Colecovision stuff for $20. Then I got stopped on the Canadian border since they thought we were smuggling stuff in my overstuffed car.
