    Default Battery backup list for all game carts

    Not entirely sure which carts have batteries in them, I know SNES and GBC (GBA too?) have them.

    Is there a definitive list of what batteries are used for each type of cart?

    SNES = CR2032
    NES = CR2032
    GBC = CR2025
    GBA = ?
    etc ..

    Like to know just in case I need to replace a battery and know what part to get.

    Some Genesis games and N64 games actually use some sort of non-volatile memory, like flash or something. Sonic 3 is an example.
    Rarest games in collection: (R8) Chavez II for SNES / (R7) Star Gunner (Telesys) for Atari 2600
    Game Collection -- Game Commercials -- Favorite Game: Secret of Mana
    Wii code: 2572 7867 9177 9866 Smash: 0259-0110-4026

    Yeah, I recently took Sonic 3 apart to clean it and didn't remember seeing a battery. I haven't played it yet though. A lot of N64 games use the controller pack too. If you think about it though, it is a little strange that some N64 games use batteries and some use controller packs. Does it have to do with storage space? Don't mean to Hijack OP (I'll delete comment if you ask), but do any other Genesis or SNES games use flash memory?

    And to answer part of your question, I am pretty sure that NES games use (CR2032) as well. I'll check to be certain later. Be sure you're careful though, because I understand that those batteries are often times spot-welded into the battery holder- so they can be a bitch to take out.

    GBA games use batteries, flash, EEPROMs and FeRAM. Older games (2002 and earlier) generally use batteries. There are some exceptions, like Golden Sun, that used flash, but that's because of memory requirements for the save files. Nintendo replaced all battery setups with FeRAM since then.

    Battery backed SRAM: 32KB
    EEPROM: 4KB
    FeRAM: 32KB
    Flash: 64KB

    By the way, GBA carts use CR1616.

    Default Battery backup list for all game carts

    Does anyone here know of a place that sells them with the metal tabs on them? Or is it best just to buy the battery and use the old tabs? I have this fear of ruining the battery from too much heat soldering them on. Thanks.

    I actually found a guy that does it professionally for you if your scared to solder batteries which is understandable. And looking at his work and the comments, looks pretty good to me.

    I don't have a problem making them myself, I was just wondering if there was a place you could order them with the tabs already on for about the same price. Thanks anyway.
