    Default Myst on PSP

Lucky that I am, I managed to get an advanced copy of Myst on PSP. I've had it for months.. basically since the GDC. It is still sealed and packed safe.

It seems that it might never make it to market... So am I sitting on a gold mine?

how would anyone know if you're sitting on a gold mine unless someone else sells one and we can find out the value?

if it never releases, maybe you could sell it for $50 to $100. if you got it from the gdc, then other people got it too, so it's not a one of a kind or anything.

    it's a waiting game i guess.

It was from the GDC... But I don't think it was openly available.

But I guess you are right, it is a waiting game.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH @#)&$!@&$@#)&$#@

IS NO CONSOLE SAFE FROM THAT ATROCITY?!

Who in heaven's name had the idea of porting the most fucking common game in history (right behind Super Mario / Duck Hunt anyway) to yet ANOTHER SYSTEM?!

Are you talking about a US version of Myst? Because I thought it was already released in Japan and Europe.

I had always liked it. Thought the whole idea behind the story was rather neat. My mother, on the other hand, absolutely loves that game. She always asks if I can install it on her computer.

I tried playing the sequel Riven, but I couldn't stand it. Nothing made sense. The "puzzles" were completely illogical, just like in The 7th Guest.

I'm glad optical disc-based games have progressed far beyond that useless genre.

Just out of curiosity did you like FMV games like Night Trap, Double Switch, or Sewer Shark?

I didn't like Myst, but for some reason, I loved Night Trap! I hate to admit it, but I thought it was truly revolutionary and hope they re-release it!

I know, maybe I am crazy...

However, I did think the puzzles in the 7th Guest were a little illogical, but I cheated. I used a strategy guide!

I've never played Night Trap, Double Switch, or Sewer Shark, partly because the reviews were so bad.

The FMV genre is bad and so is the "illogical puzzle" genre. They're both useless. Games like Myst, Riven, Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, The 7th Guest, The 11th Hour, Hell Cab, etc., were nice tech demos, but boring, frustrating, pointless games.

Again, I'm glad CD and DVD games have progressed far beyond that trash...no offense to anyone.

None taken. I just think those type of games still deserve their place in video game history, that's all.

I understand you viewpoint and a lot of other gamers feel the same way. I just happen to love Night Trap...don't know why...

Amen! I've never understood the draw Myst has with people. I love adventure games but I just hated this. Lousy puzzles, awful storyline (and campy as hell), and like you said; and interactive screen saver.

Myst III was the worst though. I can forgive the original for being bad because of its age, but III? Oi. Awful cutscenes (I was actually embarrassed to be seen playing it - and I regularly play Cho Aniki in front of people).

I know there's a weird first person/third person debate in the adventure community, but Myst (and part III particularly) is one of the reasons why I dismiss alot of first person adventure games (even though I shouldn't). Dropping that much money on what amounted to a collection of Quicktime 360 panoramas left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

More casual gamers like it than true hardcore gamers...

I also no longer like PC games, but even when I was into them, I still hated MYST: The Interactive Screen Saver (I always thought that should be the "tag line")
