Default Playing Burned Amiga CD32 games on the CD32

I have an Amiga CD32. I have a bunch of burned games that I am trying to play. They will load the games initial screen, but when I select start and the game says "loading" or what ever the particular game might say it just freezes.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

    Thanks

    Josh

It is VITAL that you burn CD32 games at the slowest possible speed. I didn't think it would make that big of a differance but I wasted about 10 CD's burning at the highest speed... I cranked the burning speed down and the problem was solved.
Thanks for indulging my gaming habit when I was young, Dad. You were the best. I miss you. ~David Barnes 1926-2007~

I second this - most of the ones I burned at a higher speed turned into just an unloadable coaster. Even then, I still have the occasional 'this just will not load' image and I end up buying the original.

Also, there are a lot of games on the CD32 that must be played in PAL mode. Many of them will happily display their title screen in NTSC, and then quietly crash right before the game starts. Try playing the game in PAL before you toss it in the garbage.

In addition to the CD burning speed, I've also found the CD32 is pretty finicky about CD brands as well. The CD32 has to be the most picky laser ever.

    Yep, sure do.

@Flack: Exactly. I finally gave up burning and started collecting for it in its place - first CD based system I ever bothered collecting for.

The reason it's happening is the same reason that a cd player from the late 80s won't play burned cd-rs, the reflection rate is too weak (from the burned disc) for the laser to read. This also means (on top of problems reading burn media) that it will have problems with discs that have dust, dirt, or minor scratches (that although slightly flawed wouldn't have an issue in newer players).

To do burned media though, use a high quality brand of cd-rs like Verbatim and user a strong burner like a Pioneer and burn at a low speed (as recommended above) this will render a higher reflection rate which should mostly compensate for the weak laser in the amiga cd32.

I'm going to try to replace the laser in one of them (with a newer laser), but who knows how that will go.
