    Default Dreamcast s-video interference

    Has anyone experienced this:
I have my dreamcast connected via an s-video cable. I notice that whenever there is a solid color on screen you can see vertical closely spaced lines in the picture. I assume they are always there, but they are most noticeable against a solid color, especially red. Any idea what causes this? Outside interference or from the Dreamcast itself (it does this with the s-video from my vga box as well) The composite output doesn't have this problem.

Wow! That was incredibly insightful. My eyes are open and the problem no longer exists. Thank you so much for taking the time to post.

Seriously, if you don't have anything useful to post, don't post at all.

Please don't gum up the technical forum.

Have you tried using a different S-Video cable? The problem could be a short in your cable.

I've used a dedicated s-video av cable for the dreamcast and an s-video cable from my vga box, both with the same result. Does anyone have a dreamcast with an s-video connection that can check and see if this isn't just me?

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. The DC's S-Video out just isn't very good. Luckily, the list of games that don't support VGA is very short!

I heard a particular brand of S-Video cables are really bad. What cable are you using? I can't remember if it was the Interact or Pelican branded ones that weren't so good. I'm betting it was the Interact ones.

For my dedicated s-video cable I used a 3rd party brand I bought from play-asia.com. However, the fact that the two ways of connecting that I've tried and the input from mario2butts makes me think that it's the Dreamcast itself. I know the genesis introduces interference into composite video signal, so I'm assuming it's similar with the Dreamcast.
