Default Sega 32x X-MEN & Virtua Hamster protos

What are these two games going for nowadays? I saw both on ebay at least twice several years ago but I haven't seen any since (but then again I haven't been looking).

Both of the games I have are mounted into carts with labels (based on Swega's artwork) and both games are in boxes that use Sega's own artwork for the front and original artwork for the spine and back.

X-Men is perfectly playable until level three where it crashes into pure code when you pass a certain point.

Virtua Hamster is more of a tech demo... no real gameplay elements but you can race seemingly forever as there is no goal.

Well, it is a bit hard to place a specific value on prototypes, but in the case of these two, they are more common or at least re-sold more than most prototypes I have seen. I would say you could probably get $200-$300 each given the fact that they have been dumped and distributed pretty widely over the years.

I was not awrae either had been dumped. Do you know where I could find? I'd like to compare them to the ones I have.

Run a Google search for 'Thomas Keller.' He used to own & operate an online shop called "Videogamedepot" and he was the primary financial backer of the failed "GameGO!" publication.

He owns/owned protos of both Virtua Hamster and X-Men for 32X, so maybe he can give you an idea of their value.

    Hope that helps.

Ah, yes. Thomas and I have spoken before. He said several of the Virtua Hamster protos in various states of completion (but all still incomplete and not fully playable) made it out the door but couldn't peg the exact number... less than 10 he though.

I am waiting to hear back from Bojay1997... I was under the impression that these games (particularly X-Men) had never been dumped and I'd like to know eher exactly he got his info.

As many copies there are of those two games that are floating around I would be surprised they hadn't been dumped yet, they just haven't trickled into the general public.

Its like what happened with Airball for NES.

There are so many copies out there that if it is not dumped it will be. I am pretty sure there are more than 10 copies of hamster. I know one person with a large stack of them.

I wouldn't mind having these games myself, I just don't know if I'd want to pay $300 for them.

There's about 10 of each, all coming from the same source(s).

I've got a Spot goes to Hollywood and SoulStar cart proto for 32x, those I think would be priced a bit different....

That's for sure. Like I said earlier, I've never really considered protos to be common, but for some reason I've had the opportunity to purchase these two (Virtua Hamster and X-Men 32X) at least three different times and they've always been sold together for around the same price. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect someone was manufacturing them, but i guess everyone is pretty savvy to those techniques nowadays. Anyway, as I pm'ed the original poster, the only reason I'm pretty sure that the roms have been dumped is that the last time I was offered these games for purchase, someone on Assembler was hosting a torrent with the roms, so I decided against making the purchase figuring the value would drop even further. I don't have the roms and I don't recall the sites that had them hosted, but I'm sure with some minimal work on other sites, you could find them again.
