    Default Snes cartridge battery Question.

How long does a Snes cartridge battery last for usually?

Does it hold its youth if the game isn't getting played or will it die anyway?

Also if you bought about 20 games off ebay what would the usual precentage of them games be battery working?

umm i dont exactly know percentages, but i know if you don't play a game the battery usualy holds. the only thing ive ever known to really cut down the life of the batteries is shutting the system off and on frequently.

I would put my guess at around 15% of games that use the battery would not work.

You can switch out the battery, but its a pain in the ass to get the sucker off, its soldered on there real well.

Which is why you desolder the battery clip (the stock battery is attached to it) and install one that allows for easy battery replacement in its place. There's a thread on replacement, search it out.

That can make your saves disappear, but to the best of my knowledge, that doesn't have an affect on the long term life of your battery.

Anyway, I'd say if you bought 20 games, all of the batteries are most likely still working. Out of 100 or so SNES games in my collection, I only have one with a completely nonfunctional battery. Of course, you'd have to factor out all the games that don't have batteries at all, but I'm certain I have far more than 20 with them. Also, that one cart is also the only dead battery out of my entire collection of hundreds of cartridge games.

So, really, there's no need to worry. When and if you run into a problem, it's not rocket science to change a battery. The hardest part is probably just gathering together all the tools you'll need. I still haven't bothered to track down coin cell holders to fix my cart.

Those game batteries last a lot longer than you think... I have several NES games, all with working batteries. This includes Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda. And all my SNES games still have working batteries.
