Default The AV Cables for PSP Slim suck. Here's why.

If you have an EDTV, I think that's the only way you can get these suckers to work.

It's weird, it'll show you the PSP Menu and such on a Standard TV. Yet as soon as you plug in a game, it'll demand D-Terminal or Component signal in Progressive mode.

Seriously, what the heck was Sony thinking? If you tell the people "yes it's AV Cable" people will automatically ASSUME it will work.

Luckily, I got the Component cables, but what a pain in the butt to re-connect and disconnect this 5-tail cable anytime you wish to play your PSP on an HDTV.

Overall, this idea was pretty sweet, especially for us who love the GB Player scenario. Yet the final results are a blunder.
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I love the cables. I have them plugged into my receiver, just plug 'em into my psp when I want to play something on the big screen. It's also great for UMD movies since it plays them full screen, not the smaller screen like PSP games.

For $20 it was well worth it.

One of the major reasons I bought a PSP was for TV-Out, so I was quite dissapointed when I found out that you needed to have progressive scan to play games.

But I lucked out, I love playing the PSP anyways

Now that's the upper advantage. I do love these cables, but I wish the normal AV Cables would have an ability to fix the issues I discussed earlier.

Umm, yeah, doesn't it say on the PACKAGE that the Composite Cables DO NOT work for games?

I thought that was pretty clear... sorry if I sound like I'm flaming, but last I looked, it plainly states on the packaging that the composite cables will not work for playing games, only the Component cables will output games.

Nah not at all. Yet to the average consumer, this can be misleading.

Yes it does. It says it rite on the front cover. I was going to buy this set one time and turned around and bought the component cables because of the note that was on the front " Enjoy photos, videos, music and games on your TV"./"Enjoy photos, videos and music your TV" Crystal Clear to me.

It states on the back that games will not play in anything other than 480p.

That said, the cables do suck. The games don't fill the screen, and on my set given that it's a 1080p monitor, I might as well play on the PSP. It only displays the native resolution of the hardware. They need a fix for this immediately as hackers have managed to make it work.

I love the cables and use them all the time. As for plugging them in, I just leave them plugged into my component switch box, and just plug them into my psp when i want to use them.

Damn. One of the best ideas from Sony in a whole year and I can't use it. Shame too, I was actually looking forward to getting a slim and AV cable and playing the games I have. I thought AV cable meant, ya know, a fucking composite cable AKA AV (yellow, red and white variety). Now that I think about it there is a way I can use it through my DVD-R deck to my VGA box to my monitor. Kinda sucks as I was hoping to use it on any set not just my gaming rig at home. Looks like I'm back on waiting till these suckers are cheaper, much cheaper.

You also should understand that not everyone is into hacking and patching their stuff. People expect things out of the box and don't want to go through hoops to get it to work.

Personally, I have no problem with it, but not everyone is willing to risk their $200 toy, regardless of how 'easy' and 'foolproof' something claims to be.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

I am one of those people, but luckily I had no trouble being able to display the games on a set with the correct resolution (try Dracula X Chronicles on it). I do see where people would be frustrated since some people were looking foward to playing games on thier TV only to find out you need to have 480P or greater. I don't see why they didn't make it work for both, it should have been possible off the bat. The thing that makes me think they aren't going to be making any 1st party patches for it any time soon is because they would have to change the packaging for the AV cables to say games.

The reason is simple. You want to play PSP games on your TV but you have an SD set. Now, you go and look at the shiny new Sony sets. Would you like fries with that?

In short, functionally crippled in the hopes of multiple revenue streams from one feature. Even shorter, retarded.

Yeah, the composite PSP cables are already on clearance at my local Target for $13.98. I got excited and bought a set, which I might return because if I can't play games on the TV, what's the point? I don't use PSP for photos and videos, but if I can watch a UMD, it might be worth it since I have a bunch of those...
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.

Actually the biggest crime, is that they didn't inlcude a breakout dongle that would allow you to use a DualShock 2 controller. Imagine that. It would be somewhat similar to the Sega Nomad, except that instead of having a full sized controller slot on the side, they would have a mini usb type plug that would accept a breakout dongle that you could then plug a DualShock 2 into.

Using the PSP as the controller sucks. The PSP just isn't comfortable at all. It's 100 percent sytle and zero percent comfort.

Well on the box of the Standard A/V cables it says in fair print "For movies, photos and music". It doesnt say anything about the games. Component description does. And as far as the difficult task of plugging and unplugging why dont you just leave it hooked int he back or front of your TV and just plug and unplug the single cable into the psp when ever you want to use it.

Perhaps some component to composite/Svideo conversion box would work?
