Default black and white snes games

my friend is puzzled because some of his snes games, like wayne's world, play in black and white. some games are color, however. do the cartridges just need cleaning or what?

Sounds like a common NTSC vs PAL problem. Did your friend get any SNES cart across Atlantic ocean? If so, that's the problem and it's not easy to solve it.

If he does have the correct setup and not using imports, another possibility is the TV's picky about finding the color signal. Try hooking his SNES to a different TV and if the problem game works fine, shoot his TV.

    Default Color Problems?!?!??!

    Hi Guys / and gals...

I'm in the UK... and am a collector of US Snes games and basicallly snes stuff in general!!

I have come across a few games in the past that where American carts but when i plugged 2 of them in they wouldn't work, at first i thought they needed cleaning and after that, (still not working) i figured they where duds but i used a european convertor on my US snes and put the dead game in the front of the converter (as if it was a jap game) and they worked!!

All i could put this down too after opening both "dead/working" carts they where both UK boards!!

So they where american shaped carts with Uk Boards inside?!

So not sure what was going on!! (some a-hole) having some fun maybe?!? also i bought these games from a shop in the UK some other people had them before me..

Now this problem / mix up is very slightly different to the original question, but i thought i'd drop it in there, maybe it might help?!?!?

If the system and the game are both American NTSC, then the problem is a known issue that affected a small number of SNES systems. If you call Nintendo and tell them the problem you are having, they MAY (emphasis on may) be able to get it fixed for you. If they can, it should be free. If they can't, you'll just have to replace it.

That's pretty cool. A variation on when a genny's RF out dies, just use composite cables.

A person just needs a TV with RGB in and your all set!

Hmm... That might work in Sweden, but not for 99.9% of US gamers.

well yeah sadly it will work for europe since we have PAL and its a default to have RGB pins connected on all TV's here unlike in the US =/
but you could fix the issue if you buy a RGB box from liksang
