    Default Goodwill supidity?

I was checking out the auctions on the Goodwill website and found one that I could not believe. Apparently the person preparing the auctions for this particular Goodwill store does not understand the concept of collecting some items. The auction is for 2 Odyssey 2 games. They are The Great Wall Street Fortune Hunt and Quest for the Rings!. The part that made me cringe was in the description where the person wrote, "both packages were sealed, I opened to view and take pictures."

Here is the link to the auction.

I was thinking about bidding, but I still have a complete copy of Quest for the Rings! that I can't get rid of.

well what can you say? some people just don't understand, but if youre bidding on it youd better assume that some idiots are gonna be there.

That's typical Goodwill for you. I just bought a SNES system from one of my Goodwills last week and it came bundled with loose Ecco and Sonic carts for some reason. Sometimes that place doesn't make any sense.

Maybe they weren't factory sealed. Maybe someone re-sealed them planning to re-sell them, but died and his family donated them to Goodwill instead.

I was wondering about that possibility, but the Quest For the Rings! looks totally new, although I can't remember if the brown markers came in a bag or not.

My copy still has the brown markers in a bag (I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to sit down and try this with another person...so it is still unopened). Purchased it from Drwily08...who I am very sure wouldn't reseal stuff.

Reminds me of that auction on Ebay about 4 years ago in which the seller sold a BRAND NEW Coleco gemini.. But opened it To take pictures!

I'm not sure what to think about this. On one hand, sealed is sealed, and deserving of the appropriate value as a collectible item. On the other hand, opening the contents of the item for photographic purposes makes a more - shall we say - titillating set of pictures, which in theory attracts more bidders and potentially offsets the inherent devaluation of opening the item. Displaying more of the contents creates the impression of the item having more intrinsic value; more...is more.

In that case...why just not say that you opened it. Just imagine the uproar if this was Stadium Events though.

There is also the issue of items that have been resealed.

While it is generally easy to spot a reseal if you have it in hand, it is a bit different if all you have is pictures.
When I come home from a long day in Hell, there's nothing I'd rather reach for than a fire-brewed bottle of Styx Beer. Made from the filthiest waters from our own River Styx. Styx Beer is a third more toxic than any other regular beer. The worst beer - the filthiest beer - the deadliest beer. It's Styx Beer!

Oh, well, in the case of this particular Goodwill auction; yes, pretty stupid (or "supid", if you prefer) to admit you opened the item yourself. I'd definitely keep that one hush-hush if I were the one to do it.

I notice Goodwill's auction site doesn't have any sort of feedback or comment field for current auctions. Probably just as well because I can only imagine the holy hell that would get heaped on this Goodwill worker by the sealed purists.

What is really funny is that this one is at least the 3rd newish copy that I have seen there. I bought one, (unfortunately the box is a little hosed), and I saw another a while back. This is, however, the first copy of the Wall St. game that I have seen.

Oh, and if someone goes go to the Goodwill web site to bid on these, make sure to bid on the wet suit worn by Heidi Klum during Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.
