    2. Icewind Dale including the add-on. The final bosses are hell. I hate it when you can finish a game without any enormous difficulties and the end boss is about 15283 times harder than the rest of the game together. Gah.
Now installing Baldur's Gate 2 including add-ons. Do you see a trend?

So far, there's not a lot of ass that I haven't already kicked. Still, I am finding new games to whomp in my downtime. What I've got so far...

Metroid Prime 3 (100% items, but I missed a few logbooks entries, dagnabit)
Mega Man Powered Up (All stages beaten on Hard with Mega Man and all 100 challenges obliterated! WHEW!)
Front Mission (Both the OCU and UCS sides completed... I had beaten the OCU [original] scenario a while ago, but I rebeat it for the DS remake and accomplished the all-new UCS side to boot)
Shin Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun - Kunio Tachi No Banka (One of the best games in the Kunio series of beat-em-ups for the Super Famicom)
Live-A-Live (One of the greatest RPGs that no one knows about and is BEGGING for a Virtual Console translation and rerelease)

And although it's not an official game, I consider the well-done Castlevania hack "Chorus of Mysteries" to be a separate game that is far harder than the original, and well worth a play.
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!

    1. Call of Duty 4 (360): Very good. I can definitely see why the FPS crowd is raving about it.
I just picked up Call of Duty 4 because of this, btw. Call of Duty 2 got rave reviews when it came out while I found it to be fairly bland. Better than Call of Duty, for sure, but that's like saying United Offensive was better than Spearhead; it's not hard to be better than substandard.

Either way, I'm going to plow through CoD2 before I tackle CoD4 just to make CoD4 that much sweeter. That and I just played through Finest Hour (which was so bad that it made CoD look wonderful), Big Red One (which was pretty neat, if unevenly paced), and CoD3 (which I'm a bit mixed on, but generally feeling pretty positive about).

    For updates since #6...

#7 - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (PS2) - Fun third person action game. Controls take a little bit to get used to and it's not polished quite enough, but it's still pretty fun. I enjoyed the fairly small level "zones" (frequent auto saving!), fantastic graphics, voice acting that wasn't bad, and generally enjoyable gameplay. The one tank level reminded me of how much more fun I had with the PS1 GitS game, though. (and I'm not a fan of the source material, so if you dig GitS then you'll probably like it that much more)

#8 - Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (Xbox) - An alien concept for CoD: Almost the entire game takes place from the perspective of a single character and shows the events of the war while in one unit. Pretty neat idea with some really novel concepts throughout, including a fresh and original take on the D-Day invasion. Stilted pacing is the one weak point of the game, as since you can't open doors yourself, you have to wait for the AI triggers to kick in and progress the mission forward.

#9 - Battle Engine Aquila (Xbox) - Imagine a real time strategy game fought between two AI opponents, with you playing a single powerful unit on one side that can tip the scales. Now imagine that that one unit is a mech that can transform into an aircraft with limited flight capabilities. It's pretty god damn fun, though some of the later levels can get ridiculously hard.

#10 - Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II (Xbox) - Not as bad as the first game, but still not very good. If you play co op and exploit the hell out of the character import/export options then it's actually a lot of fun, but played either solo or straight and it's a fucking chore.

#11 - Call of Duty 3 (Xbox) - Recharging health system returns from CoD2 (PC/360) with an awesome balance of scripted sequences and pretty solid AI. Generally neat mission designs hindered by the senseless inclusion of QTE-like events. I guess in the 360/Wii versions they added some senseless motion controls in lieu of QTEs, and apparently those are even MORE annoying. Had it not been for those bits, I would easily have placed it above BRO as my favorite of the series.

Might be a bit longer before I beat anything else...I don't know. Playing Baten Kaitos right now, but I might fire up CoD2 (PC) and breeze through it this weekend.

    3. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. That is, I played through the story mode for the first time, I know that I could repeat that twice more. But I won't

At least not in the near future.

Mother/Earthbound Zero for the Famicom has been my latest experience, and a good time was had by me... except when I was getting raped by enemies on Mt. Itoi, but I managed. Dammit, we better get Mother 3 somehow, even if we have to settle for a fanslation.

    Last week: Mass Effect
    Yesterday: Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Phantom Hourglass tested my patience a bit after my fourth and fifth trip to the hourglass dungeon. That section non-withstanding, it was a great game. It only took me 5 months to beat the damn thing.
