The difference I guess is that you can stock 150 GB games in a shoe box but I guess the stores (especially the smaller ones) want to use whatever space the GCN is taking up for other things.

Maybe a bit off topic, but I have to ask, how does Game Cube get shortened to 'GCN'? Game Cube Nintendo?

You need to ask the people at Nintendo who decided to make that the abbreviation.

Same way the Playstation was shortened to PSX back in the day. Magic.

Because NGC was already taken by the Neo-Geo Color.

Well that would be my guess anyway.

Touche. I think you have me on that one. Oh well, then it's probably just Nintendo being foolish again. I still love them though.

Kinda fuzzy on what was yesterday and what was today, so a quick recap of both.

XBox 360 Devil May Cry 4 (complete) - first time traded in which means I get to take it home to play! Always happy when this happens.

Nintendo Wii System (loose) - third one in three weeks. Not complaining, they never last more than a day or two in the store. Oddly, the kid that traded this in came in with his dad, thought the games weren't for his age group (he looked to be about 11) and wanted to trade in for PS2 games instead. Umm, OK.

    N64 Game Collection
(loose) - few things make me happie than when someone trades in their N64 collection. Usually I find way too many wrestling, sports, and fringe titles but on good days like this, Mario 64, Mario Kart, Mario Party and Super Smash Bros among other truly popular quality titles.

Nintendo DS Lite, black (loose) - they're still pretty scarce NEW and it's nice to have a selection of black, white and pink available in good condition used. Plus the guy traded in about a dozen complete DS games, most of 'em good ones. In a few weeks a DS Lite will be no big deal but for anyone hunting for them since Christmas you know why this is a notable trade-in NOW.

Yeah, the Wii is too violent for an 11-year old. Better get him a PS2 and some nice harmless Mortal Kombat or something.

What's weird is that it was the KID who said the Wii games weren't right for his age group. I wondered to myself "too mature or too kiddie?" but would never ask this out loud because bottom line I don't give a shit, you can have ten PS2 games for your Wii, stupid.

Did he trade any games along with the console? 11 year olds are a funny bunch. They have this saying: You love Disney at 6, outgrow it at 11, and learn to love it again at 18. Though I never experienced this myself, I guess a lot of people go through the same thing with Nintendo. I can only imagine he played Wii Sports and saw it like a Fisher Price version of EA or something.

The only game he traded in with it was Wii Play. Again... too kiddie (cow racing) or too mature (virtual pool)? Ah who cares HA HA I GOT YOUR WII NOW.

That Wii won't be in the store long will it? Around here, a few of the gamestops/eb have never gotten a Wii console traded in.

A really dastardly store owner would run a contest. He would display the Wii, right? And then put a golden ticket inside the case of one used game. He would let everyone know with banners that "just buy the game with the golden ticket and you win the Wii!"

Of course, if faced with a very lucky customer, the store owner could lose by playing this game.

Heh, well that would be just downright corrupt. Doing it like I said, though, you could make an argument either way.

    It's perfectly legitimate:
    1) The store is making the same gamble that the customers are making. Customers buy something hoping the ticket is inside and the store is hoping that the customers buy something that doesn't have the ticket.

    2) The store is creatively stirring up interest by introducing a game the public can have fun with.

    It's dastardly:
    1) The store is taking advantage of customers by riding the back of the Wii shortage. Using a Wii to pull customers into the store so they spend a lot trying to win a contest is no different than just sticking a $400 price tag on the thing.

    2) The store isn't operating the way a store should operate. The merchandise should be sold to whoever wants it. Not raffled off, auctioned off, or any of that.

True, but I wonder how much the store is going to sell it for?

Also, a lot of people would buy the games, then upon learning that they didn't win, just return them later. There's a chance the store wouldn't sell much of anything, as they'd all come back as returns! Bye bye Wii....
