These games usually are kind of fun - but I've really only played culdcept and the mini games in ffviii and xenosaga. are there any other cool ones?

If you're looking to play actual card games, you can't go wrong with Clubhouse Games on the Nintendo DS. The Hoyle compilations for the PC are also top-notch as well.

I rather liked Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, but it seems many differ in this opinion.

Many more people like the SNK Cardfighter's Clash games for the NGPC. (The new DS game is thoroughly reviled, however.)

SNK vs Capcom: Cardfighter's Clash for the NGPC is still the gold standard as far as I'm concerned. Very easy to learn play mechanics, but the amount of cards makes it a ton of fun to go through and collect and constantly revise your deck. Let me put it this way: you can probably beat the entire game in around 10-15 hours I'm guessing, though you're free to roam around and battle after you beat it...my last known save file had over 50 hours on it. If you don't have a NGPC, it's worth buying the system for this game alone, especially considering how affordable they are last time I checked.

In addition to the game itself, the card art is amazing, drawing from both companies' rich casts of characters.

Stay far away from the DS sequel. What a sloppy, awful, buggy, fucked up mess that turned out to be.

I know you're probably talking about CCG type card games, but UNO and Texas Hold'em for the xbla are fun fun fun.

This is an older game but there is also Lost Kingdoms and Lost Kingdoms II on GC. It uses a card system for battle. Dont think it was wildly popular when it came out. I havent played it all the way through but its descent. Just thought I would bring it up.

I really can't put it better myself, great bits of fan service for both Capcom and SNK junkies as well. They dig deep with some of these cards, and in a good way.

Metal Gear Acid 2 for the PSP.
Gimmie a game, I'll either love it, or pimp-smack it.

Every point here is spot on. I have about 100 hours logged into mine. I would love to be able to get my hands on the second one, but the price is still too high to justify it.

The DS game is one that I am so glad I have my flash cart for. I saw it at BB the other day for $15 and even at that it would have been a huge waste.

I've seen a lot of those Marvel TCG around, are those any good?

The NGPC version of SNK vs. Capcom: CardFighter's Clash is hands down my favorite. I tried to get into the DS version but could not for the life of me and the whole bug thing all but killed my desire to tough it out.

My friend picked up the DS Marvel Trading Card game and said less than stellar things about it. I noticed there's a Full Metal Alchemist TCG for DS out now, has anyone given that one a go?

Nope. Thats why you see them all over the place.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I will second the Metal Gear Acid games for PSP. As you progress through the game, you gain points which you spend on new card packs. As you get further into the game, it unlocks new card pack series. You can replay previous levels which allow you to gain more points just to buy new packs.

That newish Bleach DS game is sort-of a card game, isn't it?

If you mean card battle games, Pokemon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy Color received great reviews and was very popular several years ago.

Either I'm blind as a bat, or no one has mentioned Phantasy Star Online: Volume 3, yet.

However - most people I know that have played it, didn't like it. Sega should've known: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Default hmmm...

I think there are a couple PC games based on Magic The Gathering that were decent, at least for fans of the card game.
