this was a question i was thinking for a while, but was konami ever sued by the makers of the aliens movies, it just seems some enemies on the last stage resemble characters from the alien movies

It seems like H.R. Giger has been ripped off so often. I don't really have specific examples, though; maybe it just seems that way because of the over-use of the Alien license. Anyway, I imagine Contra has enough differences to dodge lawsuits.
They were never sued, to the best of my recollection.
Just like how Shinobi was never sued for some of their baddy reproductions. MechaGodzilla, anyone?
dont forget spiderman in revenge of shinobi
and terminator/hulk ;-)
And Sean Connery in Metal Gear 2.
The Taito arcade game Space Gun was a rip-off of ideas from Aliens, but it sure was a fun game. That is one cab I want to get.

I thought a lawsuit was filed/threatened against Shinobi? That is why they changed the enemies.
"In some early versions of 'The Revenge of Shinobi', Spider-Man and Batman made appearances as enemies. Unfortunately, DC Comics and Marvel Comics didn't appreciate the fact that Sega used the comic book heroes without permission. So in order to avoid a lawsuit, Sega removed Batman from the new versions, but kept Spidey under one condition... that condition was that Marvel Entertainment Group would get credit for their 'friendly neighborhood' Spider-Man in the beginning of 'The Revenge of Shinobi'.
Godzilla also makes an appearance in this game" From Arcade History.
There is a thread somewhere about it.

At least acording to the trivia part the programers, they state they got the inspiration from alien for how they look in the later levels.
No surpise there it's a given how they look.
Still i never herd konami being sued by fox becuase of it.
And the terminator himself (sorta) on the Contra box.
And more
Somehow, I think Konami and Fox were able to work out their issues, if there were any. Surely someone else besides me remembers this.
Blatant plagarism has been going on in video games for quite a while now. Just listen to level 23's music in Doom 2, which is an absolute ripoff of Alice In Chains' "Them Bones." All it needs is Layne Staley wailing about how he feels so alone and how he's going to end up a big ol' pile of the song's title.
But as far as graphical "theft" goes, there's loads of movie parodies abound in Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti for the Famicom. It has a really amusing outright Alien reference where a girl has a chest-burster pop out of her... with about several dozen more aliens that crawl right out of her. After the onslaught is over, the wound closes up and she just casually walks away. Ah, a real WTF if ever there was one!
That's it! Next stop: The Junkyard. Population: You!
