Default New Top Loader NES - Dead? Help!

well i got a top loader nes with 1 dogbone & ff1 game all for $38.50 on ebay last week. it arrived today & i cant seem to get the thing to even show me a blue screen! my last nes, the toaster model, i used the av cables but with the top loader you are stuck with rf. i cant tell if power is getting to the unit because it does not have a power-on light like the toaster. i figure its simple right - ac in a power outlet, rf in coax & voila! its not happening & im trying all channels & video/tv mode.

what am i not thinking of?

i think you got yourself a dead NES. might be something as simple as a blown fuse or maybe they killed it with the wrong AC cord

Try a confirmed working AC adapter (takes the same one as the toaster) and confirmed working RF switch (same as the toaster) before moving forward.

thx guys - thats exactly what i needed to hear. i already trashed the toaster ac adaptor in a recent move (the reason why the toaster was killed*) so im going to my trusty local brick & mortar game shop to try out some different rf mods & ac adaptors. ill update tonight.

thx dudes! the ac adaptor was the problem! the rip-off game shop of course charged $10 for it but i was just happy that the top loader was functioning!

In my experience, atleast on the toaster model, a 9v DC adapter works great too, because internally the NES is going to rectify the AC current to DC.

Wow, really? I'd think that'd screw with it, but I'm no electrical engineer.
    Move 'sig' for great justice.

All the chips in the NES require DC current, so the use of the AC adapter is moot. Don't know why Nintendo chose to use it.

HOWEVER! Using an AC adapter on a system expecting DC will fry it.
