Default expensive hole in my final fantasy collection, should I bother?

I have collected every final fantasy complete in box for the NES, SNES, GBA, DS, PS1 and PS2... but the five original game boy final fantasies are the main hole in my collection.

The only thing is, the ones on ebay are like $100 + each in box

Should I get them, or not bother?

Let's say in 30 years I have every Final Fantasy game except the game boy ones, will those games have been forgotten by then, or will they remain a hole in my collection forever??

Right now I just have the games for systems I already have, but then there are FF releases for PSP and game cube, which I have no plans of getting. Should I get them anyway?

Just want to try to make sense of this all, any help and advice is appreciated! I am not in to sell, I only like final fantasy for its personal, cultural and historical importance but I'm wondering where to draw the line!

If nothing else pick up just the carts so you can say you have them and buy them CIB later if you want.

OO, I thought there were two FF adventures, my bad.

Good idea with the cartridges too, that should work better than poppin $500

It won`t be bad if you do it one at a time. They aren`t that hard to find, just take your time & buy them when you can. I would want them all complete. Others may forget, but you will always know their missing.

Its a lot cheaper and unless you are the type that feel the need the have everything sealed its fine. I happen to like my CIB and sealed games but I feel loose carts are really the best option to go until you start running out of stuff to get.

The GB games aren't that expensive, you could probably pick them all up at $30 or less complete.

Final Fantasy Legend is actually of the original SaGa series, Square just slapped the Final Fantasy name, just like with Final Fantasy Adventure.

This. They're all good games, but not one of them is a "true" Final Fantasy game (whatever that is).

FFA is a Seiken Densetsu series game, and the FFL games are SaGa games, this is true. However, they do have Final Fantasy in the title, so it's hard for me to say a FF collection is "complete" without them.

I'm a little stunned that they cost so much, but I would say at least buy the LOOSE carts (which I assume is much more affordable), because they're a great bunch of games, and any Square fan owes it to themselves to play them.

Im pretty sure the FF Legends were actually part of the SaGa series.
They just got the FF title slapped on to ensure success in the US.
    AFAIK.

    Edit:
Lmao, i was beaten to it .. twice

    Double Edit:
Just so im actually contributing something.
I got FF Legends II and III for 40 each complete, they do have some minor damage though.
One from ebay and one from DP buy and sell forum.
I havent got the original (yet!) so i cant really say for that.

I'm on the same quest to score all the FFs. I did a list and I'm missing many.. I have PS1 and 2 almost perfect.

Most people forget that the first Seiken Densetsu actually did have Final Fantasy in the title, even in Japan! The full title was "Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden" and it was originally pitched as an action version of FF. You might say that the Mana seres is the first spinoff of FF.

I think it's very fair to call the first Seiken Densetsu/Final Fantasy Adventure a spinoff of Final Fantasy. You can see a lot of similarities in the art style between FFA and the first couple of NES Final Fantasy games. Obviously, Seiken Densetsu/Mana is its own series now, with its own style and own mythos and all that, but if Secret of Mana and all the SD games that came after that never existed, FFA would no doubt be included with the FF franchise as a whole.

Do you FF collectors also collect the Game Cube versions and PSP versions? Do they count as official releases even though they're (in the PSP's case) ports? Are those essential to have too?

    @ ADG566
Personal preference really. Though for sake of completion, id say their essential and, yeah their official releases.

Here is a recently closed auction on Ebay for all 4 GB FFs still brand new and factory sealed that went for under $200.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=160195920543

You were mistaken on the value of these titles. They run around 15-20 each in complete used condition on Ebay.

Always get the carts first, then find the manuals and boxes on ebay later.
