    Default N64 Perfect Dark

Okay, now I'm a little peeved. The jerk at Gamestop told me this is a "Resident Evil like game" so I bought it. I take it home and it's basically just walking around shooting things. Am I missing part of the game or something? I didn't get the manual with it, since it was Gamecrap, so if anyone can give any insight I'd really appreciate it... I'm new to anything over 32 bits, if you can believe that.

    :/

Hell, if anyone has a manual they'd send along, or even photocopies, that would be a huge help and I'd reimburse...

It doesn't have any horror/scary aspect to it like RE. It is closer in play to Goldeneye on the n64. In fact I think I remember the game used the same engine or designers from Goldeneye. Anyone help me on this?
The only thing that is similar is that you walk around finding things and solving clues. I can understand the guy saying it was like Resident evil in play because the objectives are similar to solve a mystery using clues.

Don't give up on it, it is a great game!

The guy at Gamestop is a sad dipshit, and you should let him know that. PD is nothing like RE, with the exception that both games have 3-d graphics. I feel bad that you bought this game at Gamestop anyway, because Toys R Us is clearing them out brand new at $9.99.

As far as gameplay goes, Perfect Dark will give you about 10 times more hours in playtime than Resident Evil would have, unless you just absolutely despise the First Person Shooter genre. It's one of the best games for multiplayer on the N64, and if you have an expansion pak, you can play multiplayer all the time because there is a bot feature which lets you play multiplay with up to 8 bots I think, all with adjustable difficulty settings.

I would give PD a chance to please you, but you won't really enjoy the game unless you get an Expansion Pak for your N64, because you only get a small taste of the game without it.

BAH to hell on that one. I should head to TRU.

The expansion pack is the most expensive 4MB memory module currently available! You can probably still find them new at a Gamestop for about $20-$25. On ebay you'll pay about the same when all's said and done. If you get one, you end up pulling a jumper out of your N64 deck and replacing it with the memory expansion pack.

I'm not sure which games require it (to play the game at all, to unlock all features of the game, or to enable enhanced graphics), but if you're going to collect and play N64, you're going to have to either figure out which games require it or else just get one so you can stop worrying about it.

Banjo-tooie doesn't require the pak. Games that I know of that use it are:
    Perfect Dark
    Donkey Kong 64
    Zelda Majora's Mask
    Turok 2
    Rogue Squadron
    Quarter Back Club 99

And I know of some more but I just can't think of them.

most of the games on that list don't require it, but can take advantage of it. road rash 64 is another one.

Yeah, I know they don't actually 'require' the EP to work at all, I just meant they 'require' the EP to get the maximum performance and options from the carts. I thought people would understand that

Maybe 'utilize' would be a better word.

Well, with Perfect Dark you only have 35% of the game available without the pack. Just do youself a favor and go get it. I paid the $25 at Gamestop, but it is worth it in the long run...more and more of the games I am buying utilize it.

That's what I said. I hit Rapestop first to find it for the $25, then went home to do some ebay searching. On ebay, you are looking for a BIN cheapest $19.99 and usually with $5 shipping. At least buying it at Gamestop insures you it'll work when you get home, or you can just bring it back for an exchange or refund. After checking ebay and seeing the prices are just about the same, I of course opted for the Gamestop route...even tho I hate giving them money I was actually talking to one of the guys there, and he said the expansion pack has MORE of a trade in value than the system itself! They give a measly $8 creit for a used N64, while $12 for the memory expansion! Looks like you'll just have to bite the bullet on this one and pay the dough, but it really is worth it in the long run. I have 32 N64 games as of now, and quite a few of them use the pak. Instead of worrying about getting games with that expansion pak logo on the cover, you be eagerly looking for them!

BTW: Good tip...when you buy it there, they have them in plastic baggies hanging. Look through them until you find one that includes the "tool" to remove the original jumper pak in the N64. You dont absolutely NEED it, but it makes it very easy to remove to old pak and insert the expansion, or vise versa. Without it you'll have to use a key or a butter knife to pry the pak free from the slot.
