Thanks! Another cool cover. Maybe Nintendo Power hired a new graphic designer recently.

My word, the minimalism is increasing! Quite a bold decision to go with plain old solid red for so much of the background rather than some extravagant 3D thing. I have to wonder if their graphic artists have gone on strike or something.

Thanks! Nice cover. I like how Nintendo Power is steering away from the horrendous ADD Photoshop collage technique.

Apparently, they're only doing it on subscriber covers. The newsstand copies still seem to have alot of crap on the cover.

True, but even with all of the extra text on the newsstand version, I bet the overall design is still better than the typical Photoshop feathered collage mess that adorns many video game cases and magazine covers.

Very nice list! Thanks for posting it. You invested some serious work there!

    Two proposals:

I didn't go through the entire list yet, but I think you might change entry 015. The guide for Ninja Gaiden II does not have the subtitle ("Dark Sword of Chaos") of the game on the cover, so I wouldn't list it as such. It is a guide with an official title and not 'just' a cover of a magazine which gives you more leeway to list game titles.

I'd also make a note that the volume numbers from 001 to 0012, and 014, are inofficial. We only use these volume numbers for the purpose of a convenient overwiew. The first official volume number for a regular magazine was volume 16. Oddly enough, the bimonthly guides got official volume numbers earlier than the regular mags. (starting with the SMB 3 guide as volume 13)

Looking through the list I almost regret that I didn't renew my subscription after 18 years when Nintendo didn't publish the mag anymore.

I have a collection from volume 1 to 213, and the first 100 issues are minty mint since I never used them and stored them right away. (Always had two subscriptions since each subscription came with a free guide anyway)

NP was a great mag! I've never enjoyed a game mag so much since NP during the NES and SNES eras.

Here is a scan of the third version of the cover of NP 177. Unfortunately, my two issues were ripped by the mail. The cover of the issue is not in good condition. LINK

Thanks for the info! I'll edit the original post to be more accurate.

Time to catch up. Two new issues this time:

Nintendo Power 238 (February 2009): RPG Special
Nintendo Power 239 (March 2009): Indiana Jones & the Staff of Kings

Pictures to come in a little bit (just need to scan them in).

Thanks! I added them to the list in the original post.

Just out of curiosity, which games are in the RPG special?

Nintendo Power 240 (April 2009) - Pokemon Platinum Version

I won't have a scan for awhile as my scanner's unhooked (waiting on some flooring to be fixed).

I noticed that we haven't had an update in a bit, so here I am to see what I can do about that.

    April 2009 - Pokemon Platinum

May 2009 - Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

    June 2009 - Red Steel 2
