Yes. Most ROM sites should have the image for download; buying the original copy would be another matter altogether...

Perhaps because the Genesis version (which was released) didn't sell enough copies?
Or, perhaps because the very idea and story itself were just... stupid?
Or, perhaps because McDonald's is an evil corporation that makes people fat by forcing them to eat 500 of their tiny yet high-in-calorie burgers?

I didn't even know that there was an SNES version in the works. Wikipedia (yeah, I know), says "undisclosed reasons." Does anyone know if the SNES version was supposed to be released alongside with the Genesis version? If not, then getting cancelled because the Genesis version didn't sell as well as expected could make sense. Could have something to do with Nintendo too. Hmm...

Nothing stopped several other games with stupid ideas and stories from seeing the light of day.

I used to own this on genesis when I was much younger, and it was a stupid game. I think I got it from my parents for getting good grades. Either way it collected dust, so if Nintendo was smart and I think they were, they were like uuhh yeah....don't even bother

They weren't thinking that when it came to whether or not Rapjam Vol. 1, Bebe's Kids, Lester The Unlikely, Pit Fighter, Shaq-Fu, and Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball would be released.

Shaq-fu....geez...there's a cart I don't regret trading off as a kid. I forgot what I actually traded it for, but either way it was better than that game.

Wait, is Mick and Mack as the Global Gladiators panned by most gamers? Man, I LOVED that game. Virgin made some really awesome titles for the 16-bit generation, and I really enjoyed Global Gladiators. I didn't think that the concept was bad, either. If I remember correctly, it was just a light hearted action platformer with a quasi-ecological theme (bonus stages were you recycled trash, enemies that polluted, that sort of thing). I thought the music was great and the animation was really nice, too. My only issue with the game was that it was really long. Well, I mean, I considered it long for the type of game it was. I felt the same way about Cool Spot though (another great 16-bit Virgin title).

I agree, except that my only issue with the game had to do with the annoying recoil of the gun.

Even with this problem in mind, I'm still a bit surprised about the negative responses. There were a lot of mascot and advertisement games that were just irredeemably awful, like the dreadful Chester Cheetah platformers, but Global Gladiators certainly wasn't one of them.

The SNES prototype was leaked on a BBS back in the 90s. Someone tried to hack out some of the stuff the leaking group added onto the starting screen, but not all of it.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

Wow, yeah...you're right about the gun recoil thing. I totally remember that being annoying. I had a love hate feeling about it. One one hand I appreciated the fact that they added that bit of detail to the game, but it the annoyance of it pretty much outweighed the positive. If you used a turbo-fire controller it would back you off of cliffs if you weren't careful.
