If I'm not mistaken, it looks like a circuit breaker plug that you'd see on modern hair dryers and such.
I'd say that'd be a xbox system plug for your demo unit.
thats the power cord microsoft sent out to replace the original power cord for the xbox.they had a big recall on the original cord years ago.
do not buy/get system repair from martin krohn aka iamnotageek.com
pookninja has the correct answer. It's the replacement cord Microsoft sent out.
is it common? ive never seen this cord before, anywhere.
also, is it worth using this for other hardware? or even the xbox? or is it pretty much the same crap.
Do you know if you can still order those from Microsoft?
It's so your house wouldn't catch ablaze yo.
Not sure how many people got one, but they were free.
The fire problem wasn't with the cord as microsoft claimed, it was with the cheap power supply solder that would crack and then spark, smoke, fire, kill.
In retrospect, I guess MS never learned.
It was free from Microsoft.
You could probably call them and still get them. You just call them and give them your console serial number and if it was manufactured before a certain date you can get it.
I have like 4-5. They replaced all but one for systems i have.
I would say its common.
Im sure you can use it for other systems if the voltage match..
I signed up for the free replacement once and they sent me FOUR!
You can also use it to power an original PS1 or a fat PS2 (that you're worried will short out and trip a circuit).

I registered my debug kit...and they sent me one lol
I just registered the old X-Box my girlfriend won in some giveaway at her old apartment or something. i need some new A/Vcables and controllers cheap for it. Somewhere in our moves we lost everything, now I have this so if anyone has any of that stuff for sale cheap let me know.
I bought a used Xbox without a power cord, and although somebody had already claimed the cord for the system, they sent me a new one. A good way to get an extra cord if you need it.

Yep this indeed the power cord available for free to all Xbox owners with consoles manufatured before a certain date I want to say sometime in 2001 or 2002. I signed up and they sent me one and it looked nice. Never had a problem with the old one but this one was so much cooler. I tested it once (accidentally knocking over a bunch of paper clips into a power strip) and it worked. I heard the pop and thought to myself "Son of a bitch that damn thing better have worked". Which it did, praise the gaming gods.

While I don't dispute you and all the posters who've confirmed this... I think I got the shitty end of the deal. I also was sent a replacement cord by Microsoft- but mine was just like the original cord that came with the unit, with the addition of a ferrite core. Until now, I have never seen this version of the power cord.
