    Default Sega CD grinding sound

My model 1 Sega CD has recently started making "grinding" sounds when loading data.

No gear has a broken tooth, and all the switches are working (for when the tray is opened, closed, or when the laser reached it's boundries).

PS: The bottom of the Genesis gets VERY hot...

EDIT: My testing shows this only happens when the system gets hot...

I have a few of them that make sounds like this. In my units, 2 of the large white gears that move the laser have developed some play in them, and when the laser seeks to the inside of the disc they grind momentarily as the laser stops against the inside of the track. The gears spin on plastic shafts, so it's not surprising that heat makes it worse. Mine do it all the time, not just when hot.

So I'm SOL, aren't I? I took it apart and cleaned all the gears and re-greased them. Putting it together right now, haven't tested yet.

Mine did the sound when the laser suddenly moved towards the spindle, which seems to push the white cog wheel AWAY from the other big wheel (i have only one gear)..

My white cog wheel is the one that connects right to the sled.
