Default Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS)

Anyone else give this a go? I've tried it out briefly and really liked it, even if it's really simplistic at first. Trying to balance my handheld time with Advance Wars and this.

Looks like there are two sequels in Japan, so we have a chance to get them here if this one sells well.

I picked this up on a whim because I had a gift card for blockbuster, so far it's EXCELLENT! It has a story, you use the touchscreen to touch arrow and "move" through the town, which is simply moving to another screen. Each screen has a character who will give you a brainteaser, you can click around for hint coins or find hidden puzzles, etc, etc. All ties together pretty well, and some of the puzzles are HARD and some are pretty easy. Even came across a couple "trick questions" that were pretty great.

    Definitely worth the 30 bucks!

The game manual confirms that Nintendo is localizing the second entry in this series. Read it for yourself

Its out? I thought it wasn't suppose to be available until Tuesday.

I read that they've already got #2 in the works for an American release on kotaku a day or two ago.

Iam really looking forward to this game. The release date in my area is tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to pick it up by Wednesday.

If you go to www.retrowaretv.com one of our affiliates Ben from Video Game Takeout does an early review (he plans on doing a full review at a later date). We just posted it today and its right on the front page.

I've been playing it some. It's a really good game so far, the only problem is that it makes me feel like an idiot because most of the puzzles are really tough.

Not really my type of game but an FYI:

The US street date was yesterday (Feb. 10th), so it should be everywhere today. I just came back from Circuit City and they had a few copies on the shelves.

I'd like to see a full-fledged review on this one, as it's one of those games that seems really cool but I'm a bit unsure as to whether or not I want it. Though, the buzz here seems to be positive so far, so it's on my "maybe towards yes" pile.

Looks like some DLC is already available. It's a tried-and-true puzzle but it stumped me.

The game is astonishingly good. Get it. Please. I don't think I've played anything on the DS in the past couple of months that has hooked me as completely.

Penny Arcade posted a hilarious comic and very succinct description of getting into the game:

Playing the game in general was, at first, like starting a cold engine. I could feel my mind turn over, and over, and find no purchase. After copious notes were taken and a couple puzzles solved, the fluid in my mind gradually became less viscous. Tuning that system is tremendously satisfying: preparing, mentally, a state that is not blank, but clean - like those model garages they have at the home stores. All pegboards and fresh tools and drawers that glide open with no squeak.

Wow, great post. Somehow I didn't hear about this game. The Penny Arcade comic is good too

I'm just at 50 puzzles solved right now.

The story is quite fun and I can't wait for a sequel. That comic AND Tycho's talk about it are right on the money. Man I had to train myself to think like that again (logic puzzles) because I sure wasn't seeing the answers at first.

Apparently the replay value is limited, but it does sound like a good rental.

The descriptions make it sound a lot like The Fool's Errand.

I did finally get around to renting this one. A fine game indeed. No word yet on the release date of the sequel, is there?

So true. I used to think I was clever.

My wife really liked the first one. I'm not sure if she finished 100% of the puzzles, but she's typically a completionist, so I'd be surprised if she didn't get them all.

Are there still downloadable puzzles for this game?

Yeap. However the puzzles that you are downloading are actually already on the cart (hiding all ninja like), all you are doing is unlocking them for play.
