    Default modded PSP questions

I am looking to mod my PSP and backing up some PSP / SNES RPG games (which I alraedy own) to play on it. I have a few questions,

Will the music of the games be just as good? Or less quality? Will they run smoothly? How will saving work if a game such as FF7 is split over two memory sticks, how would I be able to use the save file from one memory stick over to the other?

Yes, the music is just as good, PS1 games play at 100% speed and sound, multi disc games are only supported in 3.80 and above I believe. SNES emulation, in my opinion, is garbage, which is shame because the developers have stated that they aren't going to update it anymore because they think it works fine. There are plenty of SNES games that have actually blue screened my PSP.

Why is SNES emulation bad? Does it have too many glitches / bugs?

Also I have a PSP slim, will that be able to be modded at 3.80??

Almost all of the games have noticeable slowdown. I don't have a slim, but it should be downgradeable. Try psp-hacks.com

Dang that's annoying, I wanted to play the SNES games, are the games still playable? Is the music good? Or is it not worth it?

I use Snes9xTYL Beta and the emulation is fine and runs at full speed for most games. It's just a matter of making sure you're using the right settings.

Quite a few SNES games run well on the PSP. Fastest build is Ruka's SNES9X TYL ME +++ 0032:

    I was using snes9xtyl .42 ME

And I highly disagree, I don't think the games That I tried were emulated fine. Not even Super Mario World runs properly. And forget about Super Metroid. Out of 40 or so games I dropped onto my memory stick, about 5 of them crash my PSP system. I'm trying this ruka emulator you linked, though.

    Here's the settings I use:

    PSP accel + accurate.soft
    speed limit switch: no

    Speed limit fps: 90 fps
    Vsync=no

    Sound:

    output frequency: 33705mhz

    MISC:

    hack debug menu

    Fast Sprites: ON

Usually these settings make the games run too fast. So switch fps limit off and turn the fps limit to Auto and they should slow down to normal.

Well, I use Ruka's emulator with its default settings and it runs Super Mario World at full speed with audio emulation.

Make sure you run it on the 1.50 Kernal. If you still experience speed issues, bump up the CPU to 333 MHz.

PSP slim cannot be downgraded because it was launched with a 3.60 FW and no 1.50 kernel. In order to mod your *SLIM* psp you will need a Pandora set. This is the only way to put a custom firmware on the psp. You can go to http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1412 to get the program to make your set. As far as snes emulation you can get it to run at full speed by raising the processor speed.

I have modified a SLIM and it worked really well. Ryan is right though, unless a program is made to run without the 1.50 kernel, you cant use it on a slim.

If you need a pandora and magic memory stick, let me know. I have one. I mod PSPs for folks all the time... cheaply.

The PSP slim supports the 1.50 Kernal, and you can run programs designed for the 1.50 Kernal on the PSP slim.

The above posters clearly do not know what they are talking about.

No hard feelings but you are 110%wrong. The psp slim does not have a 1.5 kernel. This was the biggest problem with it. Creators of emulators found a way to make the emulators run on the psp slim kernel. So again you are 110% wrong the psp slim does not have or run on a 1.5 kernel. *Clearly the above poster (Xizer) does not know what they are talking about*.

    http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1417 - helps to load 1.5 programs.

Somebody was a bit premature in telling others they were wrong.

Clearly you need to learn how to read. It can load the 1.5 kernel. I'd call that support. Just because you have to run a program in order to get it to work first doesn't mean it's not supported, that just means it's not supported as thoroughly as it is on the regular PSP.

Since it is indeed supported to a certain degree on the PSP slim, nothing was incorrect about my post. I did not say it perfectly supported the 1.5 Kernel. I just said that it did support the 1.5 Kernel. I also stated you could load 1.5 Kernel programs on it, which you have just confirmed as being a correct statement.

Okay.... that is not a legit 1.5 firmware. It is a modified firmware with bits and pieces from others. it is labled 1.5 because it has been modified to do some of the taks that 1.5 did. Still the slim psp does not have 1.5 kernel nor can it load a legit 1.5 kernel or firmware. I am officialy leaving this thread because I dont feel like arguing over something so SIMPLE to understand. With all this said all of my posts are still correct. On to the next thread.........

Wow. I am an idiot. I've been trying for days and days to get a couple of PSX games to work. I converted the original games from the disks into images that I then converted into eboot files and then put on my PSP. No luck. I put them in almost every folder. Still no luck. I had given up until today when I went on youtube and saw a few videos on the subject.

All I had to do was make a folder with the name of the game and stick the eboot into it.

Damn I get stoopid sometimes. Better late than never.

All you have to do is use popstation to convert the iso. Put the converted file into a folder (the folders name may not contain spaces, or it will not work) and put it in the ISO folder.
