Default PlayStation 2 (Slim Versio) Console Problem, HELP!!!

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out

Well, yesterday I wanted to play PS2, cause I got FF7 in the mail which I was damned excited about, I found my slim PS2 in my room, hooked it up, and it didnt work! the PS2 turns on and all...but doesn't read the disc...im guessing its broken right? anyway to fix that? also, when I put in my memory card it didn't read it, so I took it out, put it back in, and then it was fine but thats not much of a big problem

Also, the power cord for my PS2 is weird cause it won't work sometimes! I gotta play with the wire until i have power for it..I think its the cord though not the system

Also, I can't close the lid on the PS2, it comes back up, and I can't close it! so I have to put something on top of it to close it, If I can send it to anyone, or if someone can help me, PLEASE let me know!!! im desperate!!

    That's one sad little PS2...

First you need to figure out what the power problem is. If you have a multimeter you can check the voltage comeing out of it. Sounds like either the cord or the power receptacle is damaged.

its just that i gotta jerk around with it to get that red light on, once i jerk it into a certain spot, it turns on, and i gotta leave it there.

Ok 3 things can be wrong. 1. Your laser has basicly melted and you need a new laser. 2. The laser is dirty and it just needs to be cleaned. And number 3 is since you stated that your lid doesnt close and it pops back up it might not be going down far enough to hit the disc drive sensor. There are two sensors. One is on the bottom right and the other is on the top left. What you can do is if this is the problem you can take the lid of your ps2 and tape these sensors down. By doing this the ps2 always thinks the lid is closed. This isnt a bad thing because now you can get yourself a pair of swap magic and do what you want from there. This is a link of the sensors I think you have to tape down to get it to work. http://www.richspsxparts.com/howto/lidclosed.jpg

No this is what im trying to get at. The two sensors i just showed you tell the disc drive to spin the disc. If you tape them down the ps2 will work. im 100% sure of it. simply take out a philips head screw driver and some tape and tape those sensor switches down and it will work. Since you have a broken lid it must not be touching the sonsors or not at the same time

You may also want to replace the sensor(s) once you've confirmed that's the problem.

No you don't want to replace the sensors the sensors arnt bad its the disc drive cover that normally hits the sensors isn't hitting it.

well is the disc now spinning? If the disc is still not spinning then you might have a bad laser.

Yeah sorry man. You can jump on eBay and order a laser assembly for probably not that much.

It could still be that the door sensors are stuck "open" or that the spindle motor is burned out (unlikely).. considering the issue with the power supply, it's probably safter to toss it and get a new one...
