I had no idea Konami did a version of Noah's Ark, either. The Contra music he used for cinematic effect was priceless. It looks more like a game based on "historical" events than an educational tool, though. And a shitty Konami game to boot. I'm guessing Treasure wasn't involved on that one.

That was a good one. Hope that's the last CD-i he'll do, those games are so boring.

Another great one. I never woulda guessed Konami of all companies would have done a bible themed game.

I got a kick out of him looking at the Noah's Ark cartridge and freaking out it was made by Konami. That and I felt bad for him having to play Sunday Funday.

It was actually developed by Source in the UK.

With a limitation of 5 games a year, that's one that they published? How strange.

I think the 5 game a year limit was only in the US. The game in question was European.

That's interesting about the 5 game a year limit for the NES. I'd like to know more about it. That's only for unlicensed games right?

Anyway, He also did a Movie Review about a cult Santa Claus movie.. http://www.spike.com/video/tribute-to-santa/3083250

Right, and Konami was considered the NES's most successful third-party publisher at the time. As such, Nintendo allowed them to bend the rules a bit by letting them establish a new publishing company, Ultra Games, in order to import more of their games into the U.S. It was just a front. The whole thing seems a little silly to me. Wouldn't it have been less costly and more efficient to just allow Konami to exceed the limit? I guess Nintendo was trying to avoid showing favoritism (which is absurd. Anybody who looks at the title screens of those games knows they're developed by Konami) and to prevent a backlash from other publishers. I'm trying to remember if any other publishers pulled this, but nothing comes to mind. The ony thing that comes close would be, say, Broderbund's relationship with Irem (where Deadly Towers, the Guardian Legend, Spelunker, etc. were published in the U.S. by Broderbund initially.)

I'm honestly surprised the questioning of Nintendo's limitations on third parties came out so late in the NES's lifespan. The amount of evidence towards a massive antitrust lawsuit was so staggering.

What was the actual event that lifted these regulations off of 3rd parties?

I'm pretty sure LJN was just a cover for Acclaim to break the limit.

I think you may be right. The only evidence I have against that is simply that I remember LJN having 4-5 games out (Jaws, Major League Baseball, NFL Football, and Karate Kid) at the same time that Acclaim had only had two (Star Voyager and Winter Games), so AckLame hadn't exceeded their quota yet. I could be wrong, though.

Not at first. LJN was originally a toy company that just happened to get into the video game business. Acclaim bought it from MCA/Universal in 1988.

That explains things. I know on many of my later LJN titles ('Incredible Crash Dummies' for example) the words "manufactured by acclaim" are molded directly into the plastic.

AVGN did a panel at Magfest.

Says what his next video is so you might wanna skip this for now if you don't want it spoiled:

The AVGN asked for audience members (all fans) to vote on their favorite Nerd moments, for consideration for his Top 10 Nerd moments coming out later this year. “Whip or Shizz?” “Kill all babies or the Joker’s ass?” Everyone knew the jokes by heart, yet arguments over rankings were inevitable.
One Heated debate: which was better, Kyle’s flashback, or the pause music from BattleToads?

…You just have to know. What, you ask, was the number one choice? Well… you’re just going to have to wait for the video to find out.

Then James took some questions from his captive audience. Some samples:

5 favorite bands? Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Metallica, Led Zepplin.

Favorite video? Mario 3, because “for once I got to play a good game.”
Favorite games? “Super Mario World, Zelda: a Link to the Past, Super Metroid. The SNES had the best stuff.”

Where are you going from here? “Feature film.” “Stick with me, I’ve got something in the works.”

What about the next AVGN vid to be released online? “Michael Jackson’s Moonwaker.”

Asked about a video’s production, James said there’s a lot that goes into it. “They don’t have to look too professional because it’s just supposed to be me in my room, you know? I use desk lamps and stuff.” He uses a pretty professional mic for recording but he likes the intimate nature of his voice-over track. James talked about what goes into the editing process, from synchronizing game footage to color correction to matching time codes. “When all that’s done, that’s when the editing starts.” That’s the price for having high-quality videos, you know.
And don't bring up that stupid girlie Aladdin rip off! Shantea?

Like with Konami and Ultra Games then back in the NES days.

Please let this be like his McKids review. You know, reviewing a decent game with a hilarious concept that gives tons of material to work with?
