I've also never played any Final Fantasy games. The first modern RPG videogame I ever played was Skies of Arcadia on the DC, and I played it to the end. BUT, I found it somewhat boring, and pretty much what I expected from a videogame RPG. My expectation of them is that I wander around, have a story that's to a large extent forced upon me, and there's no real risk of actually dying. I'm basically just going through the motions as the story unfolds. No real suspense, no real challenge, nothing to get my pulse going.
BUT, I've found an exception - whether it's the exception that makes the rule, or proof that my assumption is flawed is still to be determined.
Around the time Zelda:Twilight Princess came out I bought Zelda:The Wind Waker for my Gamecube. I'd never played a Zelda game and figured it was worth trying, considering how popular the Zelda series was.
I haven't played the game in a long time, and I haven't yet finished it, but I liked Wind Waker enormously. It was a lot of fun. I was actually just thinking about resuming play with it earlier this week, but all other games are on hold for me until I finish up with the Activision Patch Challenge going on right now.
