Default God of War: Chains of Olympus

    Is anyone else playing this?

I'm a pretty big God of War fan, so I've been enjoying it immensely. It has everything that makes the PS2 games so much fun... Only portable.

The controls are pretty amazing; I think this is the first PSP action game I've played where the ergonomics of the buttons and analog nubbin feel right. Kratos does what you want him to every time, at a rock solid frame rate. Special attention goes to the 'evade' move: instead of being mapped to the right analog stick, you hold both the L and R buttons and push in the desired direction on the analog nubbin. It takes a few battles to get used to, but it works as well as it's console brethren.

I honestly don't have many complaints: it's a bit on the short side (six hours for me), and some of the background textures are less than inspiring. Other than that, this might be the most entertaining action game I've played on the PSP(that wasn't a ripped PS1 ISO).

That's great to hear. I am actually thinking of getting a PSP for that. I also heard they are porting it to the PS2.

Wow, huge thumbs up from everyone! This is a title that has gotten me looking at buying a PSP as well. That, and seeing strange things like PaTaPon.

I've had my psp since launch and the only reasons I stil have it are for this game and the new FFVII.

I got this and I am having a blast with it, now can anyone tell me where this falls into the story of the series. I ask because I have played and beat the first but didn't play the second yet, so I was curious where this one falls in the time line and does it tie into the first or second at all?

I'll also throw my hat in and praise it's awesomeness (played the demo like 20 times, and I really enjoyed Read At Dawn Studio's "DAXTER" ... so I knew great things were in store for God of War Chains of Olympus.)

But to answer your question, this game is a prequel to God of War 1 the story falls in sometime before the events of the 1st game, possibly leading right up to them (though I haven't finished it, so I can't confirm that).

Is that true? Any info on the PS2 release? As I am also a big fan of the series and it would be awesome to get a prequel on the PS2...

PS2 port? Not according to the games developer - Ready At Dawn Studios.

There will be a PS2 port. Guaranteed. It's funny that the developer actually thinks they have some say in the decision. Sony will decree it and it will happen. Simple as that. There's too much money to be made with a PS2 port.

    True enough.

Though, I'd estimate a good year and-a-half (maybe slightly less, or maybe slightly longer) based on the standard set by all the other ports (with the exception of Silent Hill Origins).

Guess we'll have to just wait and see what happens.

It's a prequel to the first God of War, dealing with the time frame in which Kratos was in servitude to the Gods. I think it's suppose to take you nearly right up to the moment where the original game began.

    Edited to add:

Oops--Frankie already answered you. Sorry for the redundancy.

This game is AWESOME. First GOW i've ever played.

I'm actually making some progress in an action game! Amazing!

Ready At Dawn's engine doesn't port so well to the PS2. If the agreement wasn't already made, then sony may not be able to get the rights to port the engine over, which would mean a complete rewrite of the code.

The PS2 doesn't have enough life in it to completely rebuild an AAA title.

Besides, why would sony undercut it's best shot at selling PSPs?

No PS2 port for now, and expect denials until they squeeze every bit of life out of this version at retail. By the time that happens PS2 may be irrelevant.

I picked it up this weekend based on the strong impression the demo and the first GOW made on me. It's the first new game that's held my attention for more than 20 minutes, that and Rock Band.

I have to say, is it me or this has got to be the most high quality PSP game to date?
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I would wager that there's a NDA that keeps Ready at Dawn from talking about a PS2 port now. They've gotta sell PSP copies while the fire is hot, then when demand cools off I think they're going to announce a port.
