Default How long to wait for flyback on Vectrex

Trying to get some advice before I take my Vectrex apart to try and clean it up. Seeing if anyone here has any experience with taking apart a Vectrex. How much time is safe to assure that the flyback circuitry is no longer holding a charge or is there a safe amount of time? I've never discharged a crt before but I've read on how to do it and seen videos. I'm still a little frightened at the thought of discharging it but I'm willing to try. Should I do this anyway no matter how long I let the Vectrex sit without electricity?

    Thanks

    Mike

Servicing any CRT without discharging it can give you a really bad shock.

Depending on what you're planning on doing once inside, you might not even want to concern yourself with it (i.e., just examining the logic board)

Here's a site that might come in handy. It has info on Vectrex repair and CRT discharging...

Not much. I was going to try and remove everything to give the casing a good cleansing. I don't even know if it's possible to take everything out but I'm going to try.

Ah, well there is a lot to remove to do that, and you will definitely have to discharge the anode. The effort to do so is really not worth it, I'd just clean the case as-is, using a damp cloth. Many cleaners will leave a haze behind on the plastic.

Yeah after I got it open I realized there was a lot of shit to take out. So I discharged the CRT by following a website from a previous poster above (no spark btw....it had been unplugged for about a week) and cleaned what I could reach. It was really dirty in there. I took the controller completely apart to clean out the insides and now it works better.
