Internet keeps crapping out.

All right here's the deal. I've got a Linksys WRT54G router, with my cable modem connected to the uplink, then a ethernet cord going to my computer, one going to my Xbox 360 Elite, and one going to my 20GB PS3. The Wii is connected through Wifi obviously.

The thing is, my internet keeps disconnecting on me every couple days. Hell, I tried to see if I could finally get Remote Play working correctly on my PSP/PS3 today, and it died on me again. It's as if it can't handle three connections at the same time, yet I've had my PS3 and 360 signed in, and still surfing on the computer with no problem before. Anyone have any ideas?

I used to have the same router and problem, only mine happened a little more frequently. Have you tried checking for any updates for your router or have any firewall settings been changed? I would start there and see if your problem persists. After I downloaded updates for my router, I had no problems after that.

I've had 3 Linksys brand routers.

One wired, and two wireless.

The Wired one still works great if I choose to use it ... and any instance of it "dropping out" could be attributed to my service provider, or a data collision.

The FIRST wireless Linksys router I bought started to drop all traffic on a more and more frequent basis ... to the point where it would need to be reset multiple times daily. Firmware upgrades didn't help ... I think it just had some hardware in it that "went bad" and couldn't support any use at all.

My SECOND wireless Linksys has been holding up great ... needs to be reset about once every few months or so ... HOWEVER, I did notice that due to my downstairs neighbor having their wireless router set to the same channel as me - Channel 6 (default channel) ALL my WiFi activity was seriously wonky and VERY VERY SLOW.

When I changed my channel to 1, everything cleared up WiFi-wise.

Don't know if any of that helps ... but it sounds like you're in the same situation I was with router #2 (my first wireless).

my wrt54g also acts weird sometimes. every week or so it'll stop routing http requests. weird part is i can still ping sites, just no internet. end up having to run the linksys setup utility to reset the router and detect my internet connection (which of course wipes out all of my security settings).

My WRT54GS has never given me any problems with all my stuff running on it.
When I had DSL in my old place I'd randomly get dropped from Nintendo WiFi on my DS and Wii but everything else worked. I have Comcast now and I have no problems at all.

I know if you are using a router that your ISP supplies it may have a limited number of possible active connections.

I've heard that some people have had difficulty getting DD-WRT working correctly on some Linksys routers. Another alternative firmware that could work is called Tomato. Just one more thing to try.

That's true, you have to make sure it is compatible with your router version first.
I had a router that almost completely stopped working. Putting DD-WRT on it made it work fine.

I also own the WRT54G router and about the 15 to the 30 of every month no matter what i seem to do it shuts down and i have to redo my set up. I asked one of my buddies who do services on these things and he told me sometimes they do that, and it a completly normal problem.
