Yup, I'd be on the phone with them while loading up the handtruck.

It's actually a Spike arcade game by Kee Games which was a volleyball derivative of Pong. It's basically the same as Atari's Rebound, but it has an extra spike button. Fairly unusual and really pretty neat.

    Yes,for $50.00 I'd be all over it..

    .................................................
I actually found a Vintage Pong Arcade machine on my state a few years ago for $50.00 pick-up..
The description was vague.with no info/if it worked or not.,,and only one side view pic.
The selerr said I could go pick it up,..I asked before taking the trip if it worked or not..He gets back to me and said he changed his mind on the sale,'

    It probably was hollow.

Okay, I picked it up and brought it over to a friend's shop.

It was working fine when I got it but now it doesn't seem to turn on anymore! The TV turns on and it seems to turn the monitor on but it doesn't respond to anything.

I only had about 5 minutes to fiddle with it then had to take off to my strata meeting. Will fiddle more tomorrow and let you know what's up.

    But hey - 50 bucks

The guy bought it in an auction about 9 years ago and it sat in storage since then. There is like no aging on anything - the wood still feels like new and it feels like it was privately owned. I think it was in someone's game room since it was bought and then in this guy's garage. Great shape.

The knobs at the front are apparently having some problems though and are a little too sensitive. Will look at this when I have more time!

Just go through and make sure the wires all are nice and snug, usually does the trick just fine.

Update - it works! Seems like it just takes a long time to warm up.

It is a Spike from Kee Games. I have the original booklet/instructions/diagrams and it looks like I need new "POTS" for the controls. I'll be looking into this more and will get some pictures up eventually too.

We played it for about 20 minutes with random customers (it's sitting in the back of a computer store right now) and it was actually quite fun and competitive - even with the controls a little wonky.

Awesome! A machine like that is like a piece of history

As for the long warm up time, tv's from that time could take a bit to warm up. There's probably noting really wrong with it. I had an old B&W when I was a kid that took about a minute or two for the picture to come in good, but it worked just fine.

I'm trying to find a copy of the artwork to have that redone on top of the glass. Also, anyone know where I could get spare parts for the thing?

Without a doubt the monitor needs to be re-capped after all these years, most likely the power supply as well. Those babies are probably dried up.
