    Default X'eye CD Won't Spin

I just got an x'eye and the motor won't spin. if I hold down the lid switch, the lens motor makes sure the lens is in the right place and it goes up and down, but the cd motor won't spin. I think I can find a new one (or at least I have found links to a motor with the same model number and specs) but I'm not sure if I need to go that far yet.

    Any suggestions?

Most likely, the motor is burned out. I've never dealt with an X'Eye before, though, so I don't know how common that is. Still, I've seen it happen to other systems (like a regular Sega CD), so it's far from impossible.

Also, never hurts to look for broken traces/wire/any kind of gunk in the system. Generic advice, I know, but it'll work wonders.

Default I was think that too

Pretty much my exact thoughts, but I've been tinkering a bit and it seems if I jumper one of the other pins on the 6 wire connector to the daughterboard to either of the motor's pins, the motor will spin. it seems as though the x'eye isn't telling it to spin. I think that's a less likable scenario.more work needed.

I have a Sega cd with the same problem. The motor is fine but there is no current flowing to it. I can't figure it out either.

If the lens is going up & down a few times, it usually means it can't detect a disc. Usually either dirty lens or dead laser. Does it say anything on the screen?

Yeah, if the laser doesn't detect a disc, it won't spin up. May be a bad laser.

Just to make sure it's good before moving on, does the message on screen change when you hold down the lid switch? The system should basically reset and give you a loading message.

    Default yup.

the screen says close lid, then when I close the lid (or hold down the switch) it resets and says checking disc but it nevers spins the CD.

I was under he assumption it would spin even if a disc wasn't in there, but it would stop after a few seconds when it couldn't read anything. maybe not.

BTW, thanks all for your responses. Even if I can't get this unit fixed, it's cool to get your input.

No it won't spin up at all if it doesn't "see" a disc. My guess is a bad laser.

Sega Saturn Systems that I've seeing, use the same laser as the X'eye system does.....

Check your laser lens mirror (located inside the actual laser)....Is a bit tricky getting at it, but if it is dirty or if there is something that is not supossed to be there, the laser won't work properly.

    Default you da man

Okay, I checked over the lens for about half an hour. no change.

Then I decided to bite the bullet. I pulled out a round button Saturn I have had laying here since I tried to mod it 2 years ago (I think the modchip is fried or just incompatible) You called it. It uses the exact same laser assembly. I swapped them out. Bingo! the X'eye is functioning as advertised. I now have a working SCD2, a CDX and an X'eye. All is well.

Thanks again and I repeat my earlier statement. These forums rock.
Now I think I'll try and purchase a new Saturn laser assembly to either put in the X'eye or refurb the Saturn.
