    Default SNES S-Video Cable

I recently purchased an S-Video cable for the SNES and I am very unhappy with the results. The image which comes up on my LCD TV, which by the way is a Samsung LN-83241D, is just horrible. It has lines going through everything, as if your looking through a window screen. When I switch over to the composite cable the image looks normal. Now I know this is not going to look super on an HDTV, but I would expect the s-video to look better than the composite cable. Any ideas if this maybe a technical issue, a cable issues, etc ..?

Maybe a bad S-video cable. If you can, return it for another.
I am guessing you have tried other S-video inputs(like a different system or DVD player) and you didnt have a problem?

I have two s-video inputs on my TV and both showed a bad image when using the cable. That's the only inputs I have to use at the moment. I'm assuming it's a bad cable, I think i'll just purchase one from the NOA website and be done with these cheap chinese 3rd party cables.

That's exactly the problem. I bought a cable from ebay that had the same result you experienced. Now I use the GameStop multicable and the SNES s-video is great.

I'm getting some fairly blash image quality from mine as well on my LCD. I'm using Monster S-Video, and it looks like it's playing through RF, rather than S-Video. Any ideas? Bad cable? Bad port on SFC? I got it going through a system selector, but my Saturn, 3DO, and N64 look great. I have a pair of Monster S-Video cables, one for my SFC, and the other for my N64. They're the "GameCube Cables".

its not hte cables. many lcd tvs simply do not play nice with low res inputs.

getting a CRT is just not an option. I don't have the space for a bulky TV, very limited. I will try a new cable just to make sure.

yeah for systems as old as the snes I'd stick to a crt (with svid) I haven't hooked any old systems up to my sony lcd yet but my wii had issues running component on it.

The thing is though, my MegaDrive looks better, as does my Master System, and they're plugged in through A/V.

it is very tv and screen manufacturer dependent.

not everyone likes CRTs, they are grainy, static-y, big, hot, and hurt the eyes. while i recognize their benefit for certain types of gaming, i think current flatscreen technologies are amazing and am very happy they are here.

I have a Samsung HDTV and I'm using a f-ing MAD CATZ s video cable, and it's probably the best looking video i'm getting from older systems. Like it was mentioned before, It's probably just the cable so just get a Gamecube S video cable from Gamestop.

I use a cheap 3rd party S-video cable when I connect my SNES to my Sony LCD. Looks great. I guess I'll vote for, "It's not the cable".

just to give everyone an update. I purchased a s-video cable from Nintendo and now everything is okie dokie, as mario would say. It seems it was just an issue of cheap 3rd party cable.
